As it turns out, Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino won’t be the next in a line of former and current NFL players to “compete” on Dancing with the Stars.

(And that’s a shame, because we were looking forward to Marino incorporating Isotoner gloves into his version of the tango.)

Marino has contacted the Dolphins to deny rumors that he’ll be joining the show, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

“Chipping and putting with them, maybe, but not dancing with them,” Harvey Greene, the Dolphins V.P. of public relations, told the Sun-Sentinel.

Though Marino previously has been pursued to appear on the (inexplicably) popular show, he won’t be accepting the offer, now or apparently ever.

“They’ve asked him every year from the inception of the show, and he’s never done it,” Marino’s manager, Ralph Stringer, said.  “It’s just not something he’s interested in doing.  It’s not a time commitment he’s willing to make.”

There were reports in June that former Bucs and Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp would be appearing on the show.  Based on his wicked cannonball-while-catching-a-football moves from the current NFL.com fantasy football commercial, Sapp could revolutionize ballroom dancing.  Especially if he appears on the show with some Copenhagen in his lip.
