I have lost all respect for this man in the past 24 hours. I just took my Favre memorabilia
out of my office and put it in a box. I might take all of it, along with my authentic #4 jersey and put it on
ebay in exchange for a stick of gum and a couple of marbles. It sounds like there is plenty of blame to
go around on this one and Ted Thompson is shouldering a majority of it. What did Favre really expect
though? You can't waffle every year and then officially retire and expect to come back once again. I
actually shed a tear during this a-holes retirement speech! In his quest to spite Ted Thompson and Packer
Management he also managed to spite the entire Green Bay Packers fan base. You may have wanted
to take that into consideration Brett. You went from being the epitome of Class Act to complete Ass
Clown. And seeing Jets fans so excited that you would think they just won the lottery, that is what has
me feeling so nausiated. Enjoy another 4-12 season and prepare to get comfy on your couch during
playoff time. Crack open a six-pack, inhale a few Vicadin and nibble on a few crackers…….but stay away
from the Cheese! Traitor? No doubt.....Remember, If he had his first choice, he would be wearing purple right now.

The look on Lord Farve's face during the presser was priceless. I've seen it before...Steve Spurrier introduced as HC in D.C., Petrino introduced in Atlanta and Stan Heath when the audience broke into the Pig Suuu-eeee chant during his introduction as Razorback HC.

The Jets will regret this move more than the Packers. The Packers probably expect some degree of inexperience at QB while the J-E-T-S are looking for a miracle.

Where did you get the information about Favre taking a call from Deanna? I've seen nothing about this anywhere.

I find it amusing that some people are already writing off Aaron Rodgers because he went 7-20 in a scrimmage. First of all, there were 7 dropped passes! The receivers did not perform well and admitted it. Second of all, how on earth do you judge a quarterback on a scrimmage and a handful of practices. McCarthy's specialty is working with quarterbacks, and if he thinks Rodgers is ready, I trust his judgment. How many of you brainiacs have ever worked as a coach in the professional, or even college ranks of football? I'm sorry, but being in a fantasy football league does not qualify you as a professional.

And lastly, McCarthy and Thompson put together a team that went 13-3 last year. Brett Favre was contributor to that success, but he wasn't all, or even the majority of it. If he was, they would have been 13-3 every year. I expect some growing pains with Rodgers this year, and though I don't think he can be Favre of the mid-nineties, I think he can be a good quarterback and hopefully manage a game and not make the same bone-headed decisions Favre made.

Try to take some of the emotions, and the need to rub it in, out of this and give Rodgers a chance this year.

Brett is definitely regretting his self-imposed fallout with the Packers. As far as what 'fadetoblack' was saying; You couldn't be more off-base. McCarthy, not Thompson was the one who had truly had enough of Brett's crap. Reportedly in their 5 1/2 hour meeting, Brett received a phone call, from-you guessed it-Deanna, and actually ANSWERED the call. He then proceeded to talk with her for an hour.

Cough...cough...WHIPPED!

Talk about a lack of respect. That why MM was so fired up in his presser-and that's about as fired up as MM gets-when he said Favre is not in the right state of mind to run a football team.

Brett couldn't be more convoluted IMO. He has been on the fence about everything in his career since losing his rock, Irv Favre. If you look up wishy-washy in the dictionary, there's a picture of Brett second-guessing his move to the Jets with that "I'm not real sure this was a good move" look on his face.

The fact of the matter is; I will be rooting for Favre and the Jets this year, unless the Packers end up facing them in the Super Bowl, then I will definitely be NOT.

"truly one of the most overhyped players of all time, a mediocre quarterback who played a lot of games (the Cal Ripken Jr of football), lost a ton of playoffs due to stupid passing decisions, won a single SuperBowl… none of it is that impressive."

YOU NAILED IT!!!

As far as the Jersey, it would have been a great P.R. move to slip it on before he left, and don't give me that crap "it was too small". We heard how he wanted to play for Minnesota first and foremost, heard about Tampa Bay, heard about Green Bay, and oh yeah I think he mentioned N.Y. even.

I wish Favre all the best, but during this interview he had the same look on his face that he had against the Bears and the Giants in the championship game - he didn't want to be playing. I hope I am wrong.

To go on with the relationship line... Green Bay is one hot chick and has turned him down for an ugly loser in Rodgers. So he is hanging out with another ugly chick in NY trying to convince himself that she is hot.... I think both of them have drank a little too much because they were right for each other.. Farve would have been perfect playing two more years giving them a shot while Brohm ( the REAL future) was the backup. Brohm is a better prospect than Rodgers but it was a gunshy year. Rodgers is the Anti-Farve. The guy is a backup and can't even stay healty. How often do you hear about a backup QB getting hurt? Especially when the starter hasn't missed a damn game? Yeah thats Rodgers.. Twice... But then again the Jets are just as dumb as the Pack.... Farve will not bring a 4 win team to the super bowl.. He will bring them playoff mediocrity and in the end make them believe they have a brighter future than they really have. They will make hte playoffs and lose in the first round. If they are lucky the second. In the NFC Farve is a top 3 QB. In the AFC he is a top 5 QB if that... Behind (in no particular order) Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger, Palmer (although his organization is a disaster) with two young guns in Cutler (i'm sorry.. he played damn good considering his health) and Rivers (and their sick defense) breathing down his neck. I'm a phins fan and I know exactly where the Jets are heading... Mediocrity for the next few years... the worst thing that can happen to a franchise... Spend/trade enough to get the playoffs or just miss them but never quite get there and never have the chance to pick up that franchise changing player..... its no mans land...

He was being dragged out that's why he didn't put it on. And someone reminded him he's not in Mississippi anymore, and you don't just start taking your shirt off in public on request.

And Florio, don't include our stupid comments as part of your story.

2.

I definitely have reservations. To start at the top, the Jets win the Superbowl, I don't want this to be Brett Favre's 2nd Superbowl. We have a strong squad right now. It should be the Jets victory. We have nooooo choice anymore but to gobble up whatever we're fed, the Jets had two 70 yard TDs, and a punt return TD, and had to hold 3 times inside the five to hold on. I guess it was preseason, but was the first opportunity for me to see my team in action this season, and instead of seeing those hilights, I watched 8 seconds of plays, a red background that took up my entire big tv, with about 6 half effort stats for 30 seconds, followed by 35 minutes of "Who wins more games next season?" or "More pressure on Aaron or Brett?" Oh, don't forget the video of Brett running out of the tunnel...and the video where he threw a touchdown pass. OK, you get it. Anyway, as ridiculous durable as he has been... what if? That would suck. To an extent, I can put up with the potential interceptions. Realistically, if he throws 22-26 TDs, and 15+ picks, I am happier than 15/19 that we put up last year (behind a different o-line). Finally, a superstitious person might think that stadium clearing lighting the first time he steps on the field is a great or bad omen. whew.

We have nooooo choice anymore but to gobble up whatever we’re fed, the Jets had two 70 yard TDs, and a punt return TD, and had to hold 3 times inside the five to hold on. I guess it was preseason, but was the first opportunity for me to see my team in action this season, and instead of seeing those hilights, I watched 8 seconds of plays, a red background that took up my entire big tv, with about 6 half effort stats for 30 seconds, followed by 35 minutes of “Who wins more games next season?” or “More pressure on Aaron or Brett?” Oh, don’t forget the video of Brett running out of the tunnel…and the video where he threw a touchdown pass. OK, you get it. Anyway, as ridiculous durable as he has been… what if? That would suck. To an extent, I can put up with the potential interceptions. Realistically, if he throws 22-26 TDs, and 15+ picks, I am happier than 15/19 that we put up last year (behind a different o-line). Finally, a superstitious person might think that stadium clearing lighting the first time he steps on the field is a great or bad omen. whew.

WIGrad, I have another 2 part:

1.
As a decades long Packer fan, that has been watching this guy on the mic that long, i believe you. i would have to agree with anyone who thinks about it, this guy has been through the ringer last few weeks, especially days. He was probably airborne for 9 hours today. All sorts of crazy hype, not able to get out and throw or run, although in my mind he was looking through all of the information that Tannanbaum (who is gonna get his own post) rushed to his house.... He may have wanted to be somewhere else, but he sucked it up and laid it out there. I believe that he meant it when he said he was going to have some trouble getting to know the squad, and I bet Bubba Franks feels a little more secure in a crowded TE position. (Dustin Keller, praised for his "overall unstoppableness", hope Baker stays cool and steps up because the guy can play. Maybe this new dynamic FO will do the right thing.) I've been told that he will be able to earn it on the field though, from people like you and I. I hope that his passion and dedication, no matter how we got to this point, shows up loud and clear, ESPECIALLY the next few days when he finds out that he is back in an NFL training camp. He said he wanted to play, and why shouldn't we believe that? His last throw was a pick in overtime at home, he has probably had to watch it a million times. Anyway, I hope we get the sky. Reservations? absolutely...

Let's face it...the Jets have always sucked. The Joe Namath days were kinda cool but I mean, really, the Jets are the stepchild in the Big Apple and always will be. Favre will not last the season...and I doubt when they start to pile up the losses the Jets fans will have any more class than the Packer fans have.

Aaron Rodgers 7 for 20. In a scrimmage! Ha Ha. Brilliant move Thompson. You don't turn down a hall of famer coming off one of his best years for an unproven kid. Sorry it wasn't in your plans but that's what happens in life. And you have to adapt. It's often referred to as "Change in plans". What a bunch of idiots. I just feel bad for the fans of Green Bay. They're the ones really getting hosed and they're some of the best.

The Packers totally screwed this guy over. Before Brett Favre arrived the Packers were as relevant as the Arizona Cardinals. I'm 36 years old, been watching football for thirty years and can't remember a single game the Packers ever played before Brett Favre arrived. Luckily they play in the lousy NFC so they can probably skate by for a while but eventually it will come back to haunt them.

All the Ted Thompson apologists will soon find out how big of a mistake this is.

Brett Favre is going to take the Jets far this year.

Aaron Rodgers will struggle, including in a tough home loss to Minnesota week one.

That will mark the beginning of the new, unnecessary era in Packer history.

Ted Thompson, the spineless Mark Murphy and yes, Mike McCarthy are responsible. As the head coach and leader, McCarthy has to fight for the best quarterback to run his team!!! Anything less is unacceptable.

Favre was the best, by far, and he will prove it this season.

A extra motivated Favre will do amazing things. Get ready to have some fun Jets fans. There are Packers fans out there, and you know who you are, who will finally realize what they had after it's gone.

All Favre haters throughout the NFL will be eating crow!!!

Ahhh Brettina, "Playing for the Fan's, isn't that what we play for" Says everything you need about this guy. Good luck Jets, the fun is just beginning. I love this move by the Packers. You could feel a collective sigh throughout the state. Usually I would have thought it was the daily dump towards FIB land, but that will resume tomorrow.

Bears Still Suck.

First, the move to New York was heavily, heavily influenced by both Deanna Favre and Bus Cook. That has been verified by people in Wisconsin with knowledge....Brett didn't really want to go. Brett actually wanted to reconcile with Green Bay, but Bus and Deanna pushed him away from that road.

Second, it's been well rumored - but not verified - that one of the people that help sell of Favre on the idea of going to the Jets was Favre publicist Peter King, a former journalist.

If that is the case, it's simply ridiculous.

Vegaschris your suggestion that his former teamates hate him has got to one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. You've obviously never heard any of them talk about him much.

Stlrfan1 I have to agree with you on about every point you made except that I've been a die-hard Packer fan my whole growing up in Wisconsin so I will be rooting for the Pack even though every TD Rodgers throws makes it less likely T.T. will face any repercussions for treating a fan icon like dirt. Of course none of us know exactly what went on behind closed doors here, and Brett's HUMAN indecision on the matter didn't help. But it was painfully obvious from T.T.'s comments since he got here and the personnel moves/draft choices he made that once Rodgers was here he was waiting for him to leave. T.T. and McCarthy (not that I'm really blaming him) just both got new contracts so they probably have some leeway anyway.

I really hope Rodgers succeeds. I have nothing against him (plus he's our only hope now) and he has pretty much handled this whole circus as well as anyone could. Is there any other QB in the league under as much pressure as him? (Oh boy, now I'll get ripped apart)

I will also be rooting for the Jets this year. At least now that this crap is over I can get excited that football is starting up again. Whoohoo!

I got my fingers crossed for this season. Just like every year, lol.

Vegaschris your suggestion that his former teamates hate him has got to one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. You’ve obviously never heard any of them talk about him much.

Stlrfan1 I have to agree with you on about every point you made except that I’ve been a die-hard Packer fan my whole growing up in Wisconsin so I will be rooting for the Pack even though every TD Rodgers throws makes it less likely T.T. will face any repercussions for treating a fan icon like dirt. Of course none of us know exactly what went on behind closed doors here, and Brett’s HUMAN indecision on the matter didn’t help. But it was painfully obvious from T.T.’s comments since he got here and the personnel moves/draft choices he made that once Rodgers was here he was waiting for him to leave. T.T. and McCarthy (not that I’m really blaming him) just both got new contracts so they probably have some leeway anyway.

How did the Packers act anything but loyally when they let him drag the organization through two entire offseasons and drafts before finally committing to play again? They stood by him for two full summers of hmming and hawing, if he really had a sense of loyalty to the team he wouldn't have put them through that, he would have been open and honest with the team and city that loved him.

I am going to love to see him as a Jet, the only good reciever they have is pissed off and with their sorry excuse for a run game it is going to be dangerous holding on to the ball behind that offensive line. Favre should hurry and buddy up to Mike Vrabel so he can get those soft Michael Strahan sacks instead of being nailed to the turf.

"if you are NOT southern (like The Bozo Brothers Ted and Mike in GB)"

Ted Thompson's from the south. Born and raised in Atlanta, Tx. Went to school at SMU. Played for the Oilers for 10 years.

"As for NY, Favre will do fine there, because they (at least on the surface) sincerely want him to be there as the starting QB."

Yeah I'm sure they traded for him because under all the fluff, they really don't want him there.

Some of you people need to get a freakin' grip. There's a guy that quite literally lifted a program from obscurity and became the face of a city. He spent 16 years, in which he literally gave his blood, sweat, and tears. I'd say that right now he's a bit shell shocked. Give him a week to settle in, warm up the fast ball, and build a littl;le chemistry. He find himself getting more comfortable. Brett Favre will be fine. I can almost see him a big Alan Faneca developing some type of man crush as we speak...

Not a traitor. Just arrogant enough to think he gets to determine where he is traded and "vindictive" (his own words) enough that his exclusive preference was to go to the division rival. Yeah, Favre fans, parse that.

I've been a Vikings fan since before Tarkenton was QB.

All I can say is, the Vikings dodged a bullet the size of a 155MM artillery round by not getting Favre. What a Muldoon.

It did start with TT's first year and recently demoted from GM Mike Sherman as the lame duck head coach who was Brett's best buddy on an eventual 4-12 year with 29 INT's. Sherman's the one that gave him his own personal locker and shower room.

Packers lost. Ted Thompson Lost. Mike McCarthy Lost. Brett Favre lost. I guess the Jets won.

I'll say it again, Favre's mindset is based on how he grew up in Mississippi. You are loyal to someone, and expect them to be loyal to you. It's a Southern mindset, and not one understand if you are NOT southern (like The Bozo Brothers Ted and Mike in GB). The folks in GB crossed that loyalty, not Favre; he only started to be indecisive about retiring the Bozos starting showing less loyalty. That's what this is all about.

As for NY, Favre will do fine there, because they (at least on the surface) sincerely want him to be there as the starting QB. The irony of this is the Pennington angle; he was loyal too, but at least the Jets appear to be waiving/cutting him so he can actually pick who he wants to play for (unlike those Bozos...). At least the Jets show some respect for him.

This will be interesting...

This will be interesting. The AFC had all the really hot QBs for years. The NFC's only real consistant stud Farve. The Jets have had a history of getting their QBs hurt. Think about the hits that Jets' QBs have taken year in, year out. The Jets just beefed up the O-line with Karabell. If that line can protect Farve and the Jets develope a screen pass game, well in the AFC East that could get them a shot at a wild card. You have the Colts, Pats, Chargers and Steelers as solid contenders. The Chiefs are top heavy with rookies and young players. Houston is in the air. Miami is stiving for 2 wins this year. The Raiders are an owner away from success. Denver has a weak offense. The Bills are a good 8 and 8 club. The Jags are solid and Cleveland could give the Steelers a challenge. The Ravens won't be there. When you think about it, the Jets could really be a serious threat if they keep Farve healthy. I would love to see the Pats get waxed by the Jets. They lose the Superbowl to the Giants and the following year get swept by the Jets. That would be like 'karma' or a God thing.

I got to tell you, as just a fan of the NFL, I am really excited about this season. I think it's going to be great.

Hey PickSix,,,

I like your anaylyses on Favre @ Jets parts 1 and 2.

It is interesting to me that while Brett faced the public with a difficult situation and was sincere, took resposibility, and basically laid it on the line.......

....while he was doing that, GM Ted Thompson has been hiding in the dark for a couple of days now. He pushed Mike McCarthy out there to say the tough things that needed to be said. Then he popped up at a news conference after the fact and said little or nothing that Favre and his fans would think is believeable.

I know Mr. Mike Florio likes to break th Jets' stones (and I respect that biting wit!!!!), but I am picking the Jets for an AFC wild card bid. Enjoy the season opener with the Pats, and the season PickSix while we see how it plays out.

I am really interested to hear someday how TT and Favre got off on the wrong foot. It just seems these two never got along from day one.

My assumption is it started when Rodgers was drafted, but I got believe Favre wouldn't care. Something tells me thats where it all began.

Favre doesn't want to play with the Jets. Nothing against the Jets when I say that either. He thought he was bigger than the Packers. Thought he was loved so much that they would have to back down. I guess he miscalculated how much the Packers are loved in Wisconsin and elsewhere. He was a great player in the Holmgren era. Rhodes and Sherman were afraid of him, gave him too much power and he got it into his head that he ran the team. Then he got pissed that Thompson didn't do his bidding, like hiring.....gulp.....Steve Mariucci. Florio has been writing for a couple years now that the rumour was that Favre didn't like Thompson and was trying to stick it to him by delaying whether he was going to retire after every year.

Now because of his pride and sense of his own importance, he is stuck with a team he really didn't want to go to. If he fails, the NY media and fans will eat him alive. I wish he had more level headed people advising him. I think Bus Cook is a greedy fool, his family doesn't have a brain in their heads, and who knows about Deanna. She seems like a sweet lady, but who knows what fame does to people. Even though I have criticized him a lot, I felt sorry for Favre at the press conference. He looked overwhelmed. I think he knows he screwed up, but now he has to follow through, or run the risk of looking like an even bigger fool.

Anybody who hates Brett Favre, for whatever reason (oh, let me count the ways), has got to be loving this. Not only does it give us, er I mean, you even more of a reason to hate him, but this situation with New York has failure written all over it. The Jets will be 8-8, 9-7 at best this season. They won't get out of the first round of the playoffs, if they make it, and they won't beat the Patriots.

I never knew that favre was that dumb.

I mean, I knew he was an idiot and a jerk, much as his ex teammates do, but I never knew he was that stupid.

The splendor of serendipity...

Hey Pick Six, I have a question for you. As a many decade long Packer fan and a Favre fan (who has watched his press conferences for 16 years), I felt that he looked exhausted, uncomfortable and like he would have rather been anywhere else. I hope the Jets get the same Brett - the same passion, excitement and commitment to excellence (mostly!) that we got. I hope your team almost as successful as the Packers...

Any reservations?
