Despite indications that quarterback Brett Favre wanted to be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Favre apparently is accepting the trade to the Jets.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Favre will fly to New York on Thursday, take a helicopter tour of New York City, visit the team’s new training complex, and then join his teammates in Cleveland for the preseason opener.
With Chad Pennington likely to be dumped, Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge, and Brett Ratliff will take the snaps on Thursday night against the Browns.

Screw Ted Thompson and the entire GB organization. This is bullsh*t. I really hope that season ticket holders temporarily turn their backs on the Packers. I for one will be holding a Green Bay Packer flag burning in my driveway in the next few days. Watch for it on YouTube. I hope in time that all of us former Packer fans will be able to return. I am furious.
That press release from GB was crap. Some sadness? Brett didn’t want to play for the Packers so you traded him? Horsesh*t.
Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy represent the destruction of a legendary team and organization. The thing that I have always loved about the Packers is it had a feeling of family. They love and took care of their own, from the management all the way to the fans. Brett has been dumped on and disrespected. Brett was the Packers, Green Bay and Wisconsin and TT and MM have destroyed that. Unfortunately the Packers now have two faces and they are both Ted Thompsons.

Today Pennington gets dumped. After week 8, it’s the Pack GM Thomson and his buddy Mike McCarthy…What a couple buffoons! The Jets just got a lot better.

for 16 years Green Bay has not had to look for a quarterback. Finding a good QB is not easy - ask Parcells. I think this year will be a wakeup call for GB. I would have welcomed him back and let there be no question he could have his starting job back. I could be wrong, Aaron Rodgers could be the second coming of Tom Brady, but I dought it.

jcasey,
I live in Green Bay and am a diehard Packers fan, but the Packers aren’t and have never been a family. They’ve always been a business. Read David Maraniss’ biography of Vince Lombardi and you’ll see that they’ve a long history of making hardnosed, seemingly callous business decisions. What the Packers have done in the Favre era is market that family mentality, along with the “legendary” everything–Lambeau Field, Lombardi Ave., etc. It’s a brand, a marketing image, nothing more, and that’s all it’s ever been.
Enjoy the flag burning.

Right on jcasey and enfuego. The best I can say as a Packer fan is now Murphy, Thompson, and McCarthy can stop lying and get down to trying to make our franchise win. Lying, some might ask? Let’s see, Murphy, “We’re sad to see Brett go” - Sad? You wouldn’t even let him go in the locker room to visit his teammates! Thompson, “We care about the legacy of Brett Favre”. - But you would bench him in favor of a less-proven QB and end a 253 game starting streak?! McCarthy “Aaron Rodgers is our starter, so Brett would have to win the starting job back in an open competition.” - But McCarthy wouldn’t let him take the practice field and declared Favre’s head wasn’t in the right place. Damn I hate it when the guys running the team I love are liars. In a sad voice of shame….go pack go.

67, you sound like a sad old fart. It’s sad that you feel that way about your team. I will enjoy my flag burning, I may even send a copy to TT. Maybe he’ll watch it with both of his faces. It’s too bad that the majority of the people in Wisconsin have seemingly turned on Brett and have believed the Packer bullsh*t spin. Hopefully the Packers will can TT and MM and the Packers will not have to suffer another 20 or so years of losing like they did before Brett got there.

This is going to go down as one of the biggest mistakes in professional sports history!!! Ted Thompson will get his first round pick only with a Super Bowl, by a Brett Favre led Jets.
Is that really worth it Thompson??? Terrible business decision!!! It is win NOW in the NFL. and Favre was the Packer’s best chance.
And… Mark Murphy, Do you really want your first decision with the Packers a major blunder? Running a legend out of town is a major blunder!!!
But… what should Packer fans expect. Murphy was (maybe still is) a Bear’s fan.
Mike McCarthy is also a part of this.
These guys are not worthy of running the Green Bay Packers !!!!!!

Where was all the anger that Ive read about Favre retiring and changing his mind when MJ did it (the first time…not the second or third, or however many more it was)? Was it because Mike could still ball, oops, Brett can, so nope thats not it. Um, was it because Mike didnt go into the off-season before he retired not knowing if he was coming back? Nope, cant be it because he didnt know either.
Facts are that Brett only retired once, and changed his mind once. Whether you believe that in late March he changed his mind then stayed retired (Brett said that story was “totally wrong”), he technically didnt come outta retirement. The media held the Pack hostage (excluding this off season) the last few years my making the will he/wont he indecision as big as it was.
That being written, the “moving on” approach by Thompson after Brett retired was the correct one to make, and I respect him putting the future of the team ahead of what the fans think (whether if I agree with the decision or not) because thats why he’s getting paid, and there are things we dont know thats happened behind the scenes thats influenced the decision not to have Brett. We all know that the customer isnt always right, and its easy for me and anyone else to tell TT what he should have or shouldnt have done from the stands, a megaphone, or behind a computer screen.
Ted has put all of his eggs in the A-Rod basket and if a D-lineman or CB drop that basket, both TT and MM will be looking for work. Unfortunately this trade may cause a bigger distraction in the long run because now its gonna be Brett’s stats versus Aaron’s stats….
TT, youve got big footballs for making this deal. Oh, btw, if you didnt already know, that coolness you feel is because youre standing in Ron “I know why I REALLY moved back to Green Bay” Wolfe’s shadow. He’s observing you.

All that this means is that the streak ends. Hes on madden it gets everybody. And John Madden LOVES Brett Favre so you know the curse is taking him down with at least 12 broken bones. I wouldnt be surprised if a Semi Truck ran him down mid play one game.

Talk about an over reaction by Jcasey.
Flag burning because the Packers finally stood up to the biggest diva in the NFL (yes that includes TO), seems to me you aren’t really a Packer fan and more of a bandwagoner due to them having Favre.
Destruction of a legendary team and organization, WTF are you babbling about?
The Packers have been around for for almost 100 years and won 12 championships, Favre represents about 1 sixth of that time and a single championship. The team survived before and it will in the future, hell Brett was gonna be gone in a few years max no matter who the coach/GM combo was.
I can’t wait for the New York Fantasy Football Jets to crash and burn, not even contending for a Wild Card while the Pack make the NFC Championship game again, that should really rub the noses of all the Favre nuthuggers in it. (Plus it will end the premature talk of the Vikes being great)

If you want a family mentality why don’t you look towards your…real family? Football’s a game and I think you’re taking this game way too seriously.
Really, you sound like a teenage girl who just got dumped. Burning a packer flag? Legendary team? What was so legendary about a 4-12 team with a QB that threw for 29 interceptions? Then got pissy when the GM didn’t listen to him about personnel moves?
How do you think the receivers felt, veterans like Driver or newer guys like Jennings and Jones, when they hear Brett crying and wanting to be released because Thompson didn’t get Randy Moss? Do you think they really felt part of the family?
Hopefully you stay a “former Packer fan,” you obviously take this stuff way too seriously, football shouldn’t fill some weird family void in your life. Why don’t you go follow Brett to the Jets, have fun with that, we could use one less Brett Favre fangirl.

Boy, talk about betting the farm for one season. I have a feeling this is going to be a disaster for Mangini, Tannenbum, and Favre. I guarantee that not one of those 3 will be with the Jets for the ‘09/’10 season.
Tell me the double-minded Favre is not going to quit on the team mid-season when they’re 2-6? He won’t walk away but he is gonna hate waking up every day in NY.
The ‘09 NFL season is gonna be the biggest soap opera yet.

Darn! There’s a ton of other GMs in the league who were hoping THEY could get a 1st round draft pick from the Jets in return for renting a nearly 40 year old QB to the Jets for one year.
Does this sound like the move of a coach and GM who believe (as apparently the Jets fans do) the “vote of confidence” their owner gave them? Or two guys who would give away a young 1st rounder who could contribute for 10 years in return for renting a 40 year old QB for one year because they need to win NOW or lose their jobs?
And of course, anything less than a Super Bowl means this one year rental was a waste - and MangIdiot has worked his last day in the NFL, as NO ONE is ever going to hire a snitch like him.
