Chris Mortensen of ESPN suggested on the air not long ago that the Packers pulled the trigger on the trade of quarterback Brett Favre to the Jets even though Favre preferred being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If that’s accurate, then this thing might not be over.
Great.
Stay tuned.

How great is Ted Thompson? He NEVER backed down to Favre. He didn’t let Favre hand pick the head coach. Didn’t acquire players for Brett. Didn’t orient the offensive philosophy around Favre’s whims.
Now he sticks Favre into a COLD WEATHER city with brutal sports reporters that does NOT run the WCO.
And gets value for the biggest cancer in NFL history.

Oh yeah, if Favre tries to veto the trade, he will make himself look that much worse, as a flip-flopper.

Living in Tampa, with Brett now gone to the Jets, maybe Garcia will finally get his contract done. Just like Keyshaun, Mc Cardel, Lynch and Sapp, Brett was most likely offered the world in conversation, but when it came to money or draft pics for the Packers, the deal was a bunch of hot air.

I’m a die hard packer fan that is from the new york area, i have attended games at giants stadium and lambeau many times…And for people who think that TT placed him in a cold weather stadium as punishment are crazy.. New Jersey is not even in the same league as Green Bay coldness. I live out here year round and when i go to Green bay for a game, I freeze.

The only good thing about that news is that I only have to put up with that white headed knucklehead Thompson for one more season. When Brett kicks it in New York and Rodgers tanks, he’ll be run out of town. Not a second too soon. I guess all of the haters don’t remember the one time Rodgers got to play and broke a foot right away.
My prediction is that the Jets make the playoffs….the Packers don’t…Rodgers ends the season on IR and TT finally gets kicked off my team. Good luck Brett !

a fourth round pick, 4 arguably the greatest quarterback in nfl history?… Ru u kidding me!!! TT better hope against hope that ar does not get injured this year b/c the nfl is a ‘what have u done 4 me lately league.’
I like ar, don’t get me wrong, but I think this is a big mistake.
We have an unproven qb starting for a superbowl caliber team and nothing but rookies backing him up?

The amount of stupid in this thread is baffling. TT didn’t send Favre to NY because of the weather.
(A) It was in the other conference. Less chance of blowback if/when Favre’s team beats the Packers.
(B) Favre going to the Bucs means the Bucs send Garcia to Minnesota. Favre going to the Jets means Pennington maybe goes to Minnesota, maybe not. Apparently he’ll likely be cut, which means he could end up anywhere. Either way, Garcia is the better commodity. Also, the Jets are less-likely to reel off a ton of wins, because they have to face a tougher schedule. So if the Jets go 9-7 and the Packers go 10-6, no one will complain back in Wisconsin, even though that would be a huge improvement for the Jets.
(C) In the end, the Jets probably offered the best deal.
This was always going to be a conditional pick, which is only fair. A fourth-rounder is surprisingly low, but I guess that’s what happens when you wait this long and let the market constrict. I don’t see what the Packers could have done to sweeten the market, except for openly stating that they were willing to deal within the division (and then follow it up by negotiating in supposedly good faith with the Vikings and Bears).

I’m not a jets/GB/Favre fan, but the guy threw for 4000+ yards last year and had his team in OT to go to the super bowl. He can ball. He can ball in the cold. If he couldn’t, he would have tailed off in November last year.

Now can ESPN start showing more traing camp videos of other teams, or ANYTHING else in the NFL?? Farve has been plaing for 16 years and we have to see the same damn 4 clips of him? If I see that clip of him shaking his head in his helmet again with his eyes clothes I will puke.

Oh, and you Packers fans complaining: why? How many years are you going to let Favre hold your future hostage? At what point is enough enough? He couldn’t have screwed you guys any worse than he did this year.
If he announced he was coming back from jump street - which he easily could have, given that he was signed through this year - the Packers wouldn’t have drafted Brohm in the second round. Ted Thompson, for all his PR faults, has a damn good eye for talent. He can make the most out of a second round pick. And don’t give me the “Favre was forced into it!” crap; he’s a grown man, and he didn’t all of a sudden realize two weeks ago that he was popular in Green Bay. If he wanted to come back, he could have. He waited too long. Once the draft started, he set this whole course in stone.
Second round picks aren’t something to scoff at, either. The HOF is littered with 2nd rounders, as is the Pro-Bowl. You can built your defense around a second-round pick. You get great talent at a cheap price in the second round. So don’t tell me Favre wasn’t damaging your team’s future with this BS.
I hope Rodgers does make all you guys eat it. But you won’t fess up to it.

Scooter, those are all good points. But the Jets also do NOT run the West Coast Offense, which Favre has spent his entire career in. This is great.
And those of you who think Favre can still play in the cold, review the Bears game and the NFC Championship game. Weather used to be a weapon for Brett to use against other teams. But he can’t hack it anymore.
Ted Thompson is going to be GM of the year again. And Aaron Rodgers will light it up. MARK IT DOWN!

Favre would have pulled this same “will he or wont he” crap for the rest of the season, would have milked it again until the next offseason, and noone would have any reason at all to beleive a word said in relation to retirement until his Hall of Fame induction (and maybe not even then).
Now he gets traded to the worst of the teams that he was linked to. He gets traded to the toughest division of any of the teams that he was linked to. He gets traded to arguably the worst offensive line of any of the teams he was linked to (Penningtons arm was always weak, but it got weaker due to the injuries sustained due to all the hits the turnstyle offensive line in New York let him take). As a lifelong Packer fan, this is exactly what Favre deserves for all the drama has caused our team.
By the way, I’m not talking about Brett when I say Favre. I am talking about Deanna. Brett himself is manipulated by the people around him to the point where I just feel sorry for him.

I invite you to review the seattle game also. 3TD passes in the snow after Grat tried to give the game away.
But lets look at the Bears and Giants game, all the 20 somtethings on that team couldn’t handel the cold either. Nobody on the Packers could and that all goes down to coaching. Did you know that Mike McCarthy practiced indoors all week leading up to the NFC Champ game. INDOORS!
