Though plenty of people (us included) initially exhaled upon getting wind of Jay Glazer’s mega-scoop that Brett Favre had been traded to the Jets, it’s not as if the “Favre” name will instantly disappear from places like this.

(As to Glazer, breaking this one caps a very, very good year.  From delivering the Spygate tape to getting the news on Favre’s retirement to getting the scoop on the Packers’ tampering allegations to breaking the trade story to coughing up a ton of other original nuggets, he has established himself at the top rung of NFL reporters, along with Chris Mortensen, Peter King, and Adam Schefter.)

Indeed, we think we’re closer to the beginning than to the end of the Favre saga in 2008.  We’ve only made it through a few chapters.

Unless Favre pops an Achilles getting out of the plane in New York, Favre and his performance with the Jets will be one of the dominant story lines for the entire NFL season.

So as I told Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday, I’m sick of this story.  But at the same time I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.  And now that Favre has a new team, what that new team does with Favre under center is a matter of significant curiosity for anyone who follows the sport.

Still, since we’re planning a trip to New York City in the not-too-distant future, we sure hope that we don’t run into this guy once we get there.
