In an unusual move, Bucs G.M. Bruce Allen met again with the media on Thursday regarding the Bucs’ pursuit (or lack thereof) of former Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

In an earlier session, Allen was evasive and standoffish, creating the sense that the Buccaneers made no effort to work out a deal with Green Bay.

This time, Allen admitted that the team was given the issue serious consideration.  “We were receptive to hearing what they wanted to do,” Allen said, according to the St. Petersburg Times.  “I’m not going to say I wasn’t interested in Brett Favre.  Yes, I was interested.”

Allen still insists that no offer was made for Favre, which contradicts published reports that an offer was indeed on the table.  And Allen says that the Bucs weren’t given a chance to match the package that the Jets put together.

Predictably, Allen says that the Bucs wouldn’t have matched the offer, if they’d been given a chance to do so.

As Stephen Holder of the Times points out, Allen’s unusual second session likely is the direct result of Allen’s poor performance earlier in the day.  “As for why Allen chose to do a second batch of interviews, it’s fair to say the Bucs were not pleased with the way Thursday morning’s interview played out,” Holder writes.  “It was contentious, at times, largely because of reporters’ frustration with Allen’s evasiveness.  This evening’s chat was perhaps an effort to make things right.”
