Finally, it’s over.
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets have reached agreement on a trade for quarterback Brett Favre.
The compensation that the Packers will receive isn’t known, but it’s expected to be a conditional draft pick in 2009 that escalates based on Favre’s performance and/or the team’s success.
Glazer also points out that the Jets are likely to release a quarterback, and that the victim likely will be Chad Pennington. Per NFLPA records, Pennington has a base salary of $6 million in 2008.
Favre’s 2008 base salary is $12 million, and the Jets would be required to assume that entire figure as soon as Favre joins the team — absent a restructuring of his contract.

I wish he had stayed with the Packers, or just retired. I suppose the Jets are a good spot for him, although I would have liked to see the Vikings ability under him.

Terrible move on the Jets. Let’s say Favre does what is expected of him: the Jets go to the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. He will most definitely OFFICIALLY retire. Now the Jets give up their first round pick and are screwed for their next 3-6 years. But we all know the Jets won’t win the SB; they’re a darkhorse to win the AFC Wild Card. So maybe the Jets DO KNOW what they’re doing?

It was as simple as M-O-N-E-Y! I would like to call this the Eli Manning factor. Big ad $$ in New York that Brets agent gets a larger cut! One last big payday for Bret and his team.

What a sad turn of events. It will not surprise if me Favre gets injured this year. And why the Jets??? Doesn’t he want to play for a winner?

It could be worse for Favre. They have a pretty solid O-Line, L Coles, and a couple ok RB’s. Plus they have a 1st round TE. Hopefully that will turn out better than Bubba Franks for him. Oh wait, they also have Bubba on the team….

All this does is set the Jets back a few years. We all know the Jets still aren’t going to contend for the Super Bowl. Now when Favre leaves in a year or two, the Jets will be right back in the same situation trying to find their QB of the future.
To me is a bad move, to bring a QB that old to a team that is not all together , by the time that Favre gets to know the play book will be time to retire, I bet that he will be out of NY by the end of this season. I would have give more playing time to Clemens and keep Pennington as a back up. This move is going to cost a lot to the Jets. A mississippi red neck in NY ?
NOW THE SAGA STAR IN NEW YORK !

You just made Bill Belichick’s day. I can’t wait to see him creamed by New England. Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t finish the first N.E. game.
My prediction, when Brett sees what joke the Jets are, he’ll quit. Watch.

OK. Conspiracy theorists unite. The NFL, wanting ratings above all else, will tell the refs to do everything in their power to create a Jets/Packers Superbowl! Hey, some great story lines, like, “win or lose, the Jets lose their first round pick, to the team they must play in the Superbowl!”
