Finally, it’s over.
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets have reached agreement on a trade for quarterback Brett Favre.
The compensation that the Packers will receive isn’t known, but it’s expected to be a conditional draft pick in 2009 that escalates based on Favre’s performance and/or the team’s success.
Glazer also points out that the Jets are likely to release a quarterback, and that the victim likely will be Chad Pennington. Per NFLPA records, Pennington has a base salary of $6 million in 2008.
Favre’s 2008 base salary is $12 million, and the Jets would be required to assume that entire figure as soon as Favre joins the team — absent a restructuring of his contract.

Hey Mr. Mike,
This woulda been my 3rd or 4th choice for Farve, and it’s more than likely his 3rd or 4th as well.
The Vikes would have been tops, and the Bears would have been high since both are in the Packs’ division. Then I would list the Bucs to remain in the NFC with a similar system and experienced Coach, and finally the Jets.
The upside is this for Favre: a chance to play, and a chance to play against Brady twice a year. But the Jets are very unproven (hey, I’m being kind, Mike…….). If they make the playoffs at all with Favre at the offensive helm that will be big news this season.
If they make the playoffs and win a game or two, that would be a nice way to cap off a future Hall of Famer’s career.

Freaking sad. I can’t believe this just happened. Brewers are probably going to miss the playoffs, it’s hard to cheer for the Green Bay Packers. I suppose the younger innocent Wisconsin Badger football team are about the only group of people I can bring myself to cheer for right now.

The most amazing thing to me is that the Jets spent a draft pick on a questionable player. Shocking.

I’m really surprised he didn’t go to Tampa Bay, but not to the point where I can’t believe it. On paper, the Jets have the better offensive team, but the fit was there with Gruden’s offensive playbook and proximity to Hattiesburg and Brett’s family.
And really, the JETS??? How anti-climactic.

Alright. Well I’m just glad this all went so smoothly. Let me just say:
Thank you, Brett, for not distracting the team.
Thank you, Ted, for not adding an ego and/or personal vendetta to the battle.
Thank you, fans, for not being assholes to the rookie quarterback trying to fill those shoes.
Thank you, ESPN, for not subverting any semblance of typical coverage to simply tell me what color Brett’s boxers were.
And thank God this might possibly be over.

Finally, it’s over.
Except it’s going to begin in NY, where Favre will tell HIS side of the story, repeatedly call the Packers at 3 in the morning and hang up, send magazine suscriptions to the the Packers complex, and send pics of himself in his Jet uniform to Thompson and McCarthy.

OMG, it happened! LMAO, this is gonna be great! I can’t wait to see Mangini throwing FITS on the sidelines as Favre creates his own plays, throwing interception after interception to the Patriots secondary!
Could this season get any better?

Finally! But, I don’t understand, I thought Bret wanted to go to a team that could compete for a superbowl. The Jets are still no more than the second or third best team in the AFC East WITH Favre as their QB. Tampa Bay makes much more sense, they have a shot at their division and they could go deep into the NFC playoffs with him at QB. This is a big win for the Packers to get a conditional third from a team outside of the NFC and a big loss for Favre.
Purple Pride!

Darn. I was hoping he’d go to Tampa Bay, and that Tampa would trade Garcia to the Vikings, and that the Vikings would go 11-5 and make this an even bigger fiasco.
Anyway, it’s nice not to see Garcia get the shaft. That guy can’t catch a break (well, he did with his wife)

Though Green Bay didn’t want to help anyone in their conference and definitely not their in division that’s what they may have done inadvertently.
Pennington, when not hurt, is a stereo typical west coast quarterback - weak arm but good accuracy. While not young he’s is only 32 years old, and for team like the Vikings he makes a lot of sense. He’s certainly better than anything on the Vikings’ roster, they run a west coast offense, have a great running back in AP to take pressure off, good offense line to protect him, and looks like he’ll need a job. Might be even a better fit in MN then Farve would have been.
