Finally, it’s over.
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets have reached agreement on a trade for quarterback Brett Favre.
The compensation that the Packers will receive isn’t known, but it’s expected to be a conditional draft pick in 2009 that escalates based on Favre’s performance and/or the team’s success.
Glazer also points out that the Jets are likely to release a quarterback, and that the victim likely will be Chad Pennington. Per NFLPA records, Pennington has a base salary of $6 million in 2008.
Favre’s 2008 base salary is $12 million, and the Jets would be required to assume that entire figure as soon as Favre joins the team — absent a restructuring of his contract.

If true, and Pennington is gone from the Jets, be nice if he (Pennington) signed with the Vikings, and then have a SB
between said Vikes and the Jets

I don’t think he’ll be restructuring.
Green Bay did as well as they could have, given the circumstances. Now, Favre is not only out of the division but out of the conference.
Poor Aaron Rodgers, through no fault of his own, is about to redefine the term “hot seat”, though. I wish him luck…none of this disaster was his fault.

Finally? The soap opera is over? But, there is still the rest of training camp, and preseason games, and what happens in Green Bay now but what about……

I think Favre is walking into a better situation than people think. The Jets OL should be improved. Jones/Leon Washington could be a solid run game. Adding Keller could prove critical, as here’s a guy that can attack the seams and open up opportunities for the aging Coles and Cotchery. Defensively, a lot rests on Kris Jenkins broad shoulders. If he takes to the 3-4 NT role and stays healthy, they have the back 7 talent to succeed.
Favre is better then Pennington and Clemens right now, and in my mind, this moves them into that bunched up 2nd tier in the AFC (that is, behind New England, Indianapolis, San Diego, and maybe Jacksonville). Enough to win a title? Probably not. Enough to help Mangini and Co. look better and buy time? I think so.

I don’t know much about the Jets, but I don’t have a great feeling for Favre’s final run … Isn’t Favre OLDER than the head coach? How can he take him seriously?

I hate Thompson…he just made the biggest mistake of his life. This is the beginning of the end of the Packers…back to the days of losing! GREAT!

The only good thing about that news is that I only have to put up with that white headed knucklehead Thompson for one more season. When Brett kicks it in New York and Rodgers tanks, he’ll be run out of town. Not a second too soon. I guess all of the haters don’t remember the one time Rodgers got to play and broke a foot right away.
My prediction is that the Jets make the playoffs….the Packers don’t…Rodgers ends the season on IR and TT finally gets kicked off my team. Good luck Brett !
