It now appears that the New York Jets are the team willing to part with the best package to acquire Brett Favre in a trade, and that New York is the place the Packers would like to ship Favre, because it gets him out of the NFC.
But it also appears that of all the teams that have an interest in Favre’s services, the Jets are the team Favre least wants to play for.
Appearing on ESPN Radio this morning, Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer said the Tampa Tribune’s report that Favre is on the verge of being a Buc is not true, and that there’s a lot of negotiation still to be done before any deal could be completed.
“Right now the Jets have a better deal on the table than the Buccaneers do,” Glazer said. “The deal the Jets are offering right now is so much sweeter than the deal the Buccaneers are offering.”
But Glazer added that even though Favre is talking to the Jets, he so far simply hasn’t warmed up to the idea of playing for them.
And since no Favre trade will be completed until his new team is sure that he’ll be committed, that leaves us pretty much where we were last night: Wondering if Favre and the Packers can ever make up their minds about a scenario that will work for all of them.

BF is a douche. If he really wanted to play football he would play for ANYBODY. (Well, not the Raiders ’cause they haven’t played “football” in years.) So why not the Jets? Again: what a douche.

Glazer had the only intelligent analysis I’ve heard on the Favre situation. If Favre’s the starting QB this year, GB loses Rogers, Favre then retires, GB winds up with no QB at all. Such an obvious point, it’s amazing no one mentions it. All you hear is the totally inane “Favre gives GB their best chance to win this year.” How stupid.

I’m so frigging sick of Brett Favre. He’s such a primadonna. He goes 13-3 and chokes in the playoffs but then decides he wants to retire. Packers say they’re moving on so he says he’s coming back. Packers are about to announce it, but then he decides to stay retired. Packers move on again, then he decides he wants to play even though he waits about two weeks to send in his reinstatement letter. Packers announce they’re welcoming him back to compete for the job but then he decides he doesn’t want to show up because it’ll be a “distraction”.
I get the feeling that wherever they try to trade him, he’ll just change his mind again. They have everything worked out with the Bucs, but then he decides he doesn’t want to play there. This is ridiculous. I can’t figure out if he just loves all the attention or if he’s making a concerted effort to stick it to the Packers. Either way, he’s wrong for doing it, he’s hurting his own image, and he’s hurting the Packers as well as Aaron Rodgers by being so selfish. I guess the real face of Favre is coming out now - the face that the players in the NFL have seen and known and resented his whole career, not the face we see on TV of him high-fiving refs and throwing snow around and running around and jumping. This is like the third year he’s dragged them over the coals about retiring. I just can’t blame the Packers for moving on from the three ring circus that is Brett Favre.
And for all the delusional Packers fans who think Brett Favre is going to win you a championship, think again. He’ll go 13-3 again this year and throw 25 touchdowns in the first round of the playoffs. He’s not a playoff quarterback, I don’t care that he won a Super Bowl 400 years ago. Give Aaron a chance. Even if Brett came back this year, he’d pull this crap again next offseason. Do you really want two years of this circus? Coming from someone who watched an offseason of the TO circus, I’m telling you from experience that it ruins your entire season eventually. Move on.

This is driving me insane.
From the very beginning of all this crap, Favre has repeatedly said that he just wants to play football. He says he’s still got the skills to put a helmet on for another season.
But when push comes to shove, it turns out that, yes indeed, he does want to play football - but not with that team (it’s too hot!)…or that team…or that team…
And for a guy who DOESN’T even have a no-trade clause (that’s some great negotiating, Bus) he certainly acts like he’s got one.
Yes, the Packers screwed this up royally (especially the longer it dragged out). BUT ALL OF THIS could have been avoided if Favre hadn’t “retired” back in March. And for all those who say Favre was “pushed”, gimme a break. If nothing else, this whole episode has shown that Favre can “push” back with the best of them.

Either stay retired or commit to this plan to get your job back with the Packers. The distraction is already there. You are entitled to return and compete. Let the fans deal with McCarthy and Thompson as this plays out.
It must be overwhelming all of these options without the job that made you what you were for 16 years. If only you hadn’t retired and had the resolve to just come and play and let all the other stuff work itself out.
Bring this thing to sensible end and soon.

He choked in the playoffs? Really?
He had a 64% completion percentage (that’s higher than Tom Brady had this year), with 5 TD’s and 2 INT’s. How is that choking?
I’m not saying all this drama isn’t annoying, or that he isn’t responsible for it, but saying he choked in the playoffs is way off base.
Believe me. I’m a Bills fan, so I know choking when I see it.

Packers will structure any trade agreement so that if there is a double trade to the Vikings, the conditional compensation they receive increases dramatically. Like an extra first round pick. This kind of “poison pill” should make the team that gets Favre think twice before pulling off a double trade.

UGH, enough already. Favre is such a whiny little bitch it is sickening. He honestly makes TO look like a great teammate and unselfish. Favre needs to realize he can’t have it 20 different ways. If you don’t want to play for the Packers than you should accept wherever they send you instead of being a selfish ass.
I for one am rooting for Favre to blow his knee out in the opener and for Aaron Rodgers to win the Super Bowl, nothing would be sweeter justice.

I dont get this Farve obsession. Yes he was good and yes last year he had a good year. However the previous two seasons were horrible and when comparing Farve to Jeff Garcia over the last two years, Garcia is the better QB.
Farve is averaging 7.055 yrds per recp, Garcia 7.21. The TD to Interception Ratio is heavily in Garcias favor; 3.83 to 1.39 and the passer rating, Garcia 95.2 and Farve 84.2.

slim to none, and slim just walked out the door. Trades between 2 teams are pretty uncommon as it is compared to other sports, 3 way trades never seem to happen. there are only 2 i can remember trading lelie i believe, it was the broncos, falcons, and skins. and then with denver, atl, and the jets for john abraham. too complicated and i’m sure gb will put stipulations, on whatever team lands favre, about trading him to the vikings.

Go Favre! I hope he gets to do what he wants as I feel he has earned that right. He is an outstanding player and he is magic to watch because he loves the game. I mean come on, we fans need SOMETHING to watch now that … which group was it again … the NFL itself? … passed that detrimental conduct policy recently. This one guy said it best when he was like, oh so now we’re supposed to go in the stadiums and act like angels??? SNORE. You want family fun, go to a baseball game for the crissakes! This is FOOTBALL!

Quite simply, include a clause that says the Jets get their picks back PLUS a low round pick from the Packers if he retires this year, barring injury. Giving up a low round pick to get BF out of your hair (and possible retired) is a lot cheaper then 20 mil. over 10 years.

@dfrooney
As discussed before, the Packers just have to put a little conditional trade in the deal that if Favre appears on another roster or is not on the opening day roster than the draft pick value goes up, enough to encourage no trade to the Vikings.
