G Chris Kemoeatu (triceps) made his 2008 training camp debut on Monday; he’s expected to replace Alan Faneca.
Kemoeatu was installed into the first-team offense, and committed a false start after just a handful of plays.
Various Steelers missed practice Monday with minor ailments, including 2007 team MVP James Harrison.
Mewelde Moore is listed as the top kick and punt returner on the team’s initial depth chart.
Moore might not have to worry about newcomer Eddie Drummond; Drummond slipped and fell while fielding a punt, and the ball then hit him.
DT Casey Hampton, who is still digesting the boar he swallowed last month, is listed as the starting nose tackle.
As to his weight, Hampton says, “I don’t really get on a scale.” (Yeah, because they don’t make non-industrial models with numbers higher than 350.)
Rookie CB Roy Lewis is impressing folks in Latrobe.
DB Ike Taylor participated in receiving drills in order to improve his ability to catch the ball.
WR Nate Washington hauled in an 86-yard touchdown pass from QB Charlie Batch.
After having only three starting centers in 31 years, the position is suddenly a revolving door.
On Sunday, rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall was stuffed three times from the 1.5-yard line.
Said coach Mike Tomlin of the first-rounder’s performance: “He has to run harder, not over-analyze, understand what that drill’s about, it’s about hitting downhill, and hopefully next time out he’ll be better.”

Yeah, Mendenhall’s definitely “the steal of the draft”.

“DT Casey Hampton, who is still digesting the boar he swallowed last month…”
Cool. That means the other players in camp are safe (for now).
