Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia is not expected to play in the team’s preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins, according to our friends at Pewter Report.

Garcia is still recovering from a calf strain suffered last week.

And so he’ll miss the 10-12 snaps at most that the starting quarterback usually gets in glorified practice conducted with no game-planning.

Garcia expects to be back in action soon.  “It’s just a minor [calf] strain and I don’t think it’s anything to get too worried about at this point in training camp,” Garcia said.  “It’s gotten a lot better over the last few days.  It’s just one of those things when it’s down in your legs you can’t just step right back onto the practice field and start pushing yourself, otherwise, you’ll just reinjure it.  Hopefully before you know it I’ll be back out on the field.  It’s not happening as fast as I would like it to, but that’s just the way these things go.”
