Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia is not expected to play in the team’s preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins, according to our friends at Pewter Report.
Garcia is still recovering from a calf strain suffered last week.
And so he’ll miss the 10-12 snaps at most that the starting quarterback usually gets in glorified practice conducted with no game-planning.
Garcia expects to be back in action soon. “It’s just a minor [calf] strain and I don’t think it’s anything to get too worried about at this point in training camp,” Garcia said. “It’s gotten a lot better over the last few days. It’s just one of those things when it’s down in your legs you can’t just step right back onto the practice field and start pushing yourself, otherwise, you’ll just reinjure it. Hopefully before you know it I’ll be back out on the field. It’s not happening as fast as I would like it to, but that’s just the way these things go.”

Where’s the obligatory: “One could be led to believe that the Bucs holding out Garcia is a preventive measure in anticipation of a trade to Green Bay for Brett Favre. In our opinion, such a trade makes only the most sense seeing the Bucs would get a QB that should finally quell Jon Gruden’s itch at that position while offering Green Bay a proven backup alternative if Aaron Rodgers goes down with an injury or continues to underperform as he did in the glorified scrimmage the other night.”
Rinse and repeat substituting Jeff Garcia for Gus Frerotte or Chad Pennington depending on the time of day.
Of course they are still trying to trade him…does PFT not read its own posts? Favre talks were not going well…Favre will not be part of an open competition….Favre is re-activated and cannot refuse trade. Favre, Favre, FAVRE!!!!
But I’m hooked too. Goodell, ESPN, almost everyone wants Favre in Minnesota. Guaranteed ratings, revenue and fan/media interest. $20M under the table to Thompson and friends to take the fall is a drop in the bucket compared to the money that will be flying around. Not that I’m isinuating anything…but that would definitley qualify as a “marketing deal”!
