Once upon a time, a game between the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints couldn’t sell out a movie theater. Now, however, a visit by the Saints to once-putative Pink Taco has resulted in the sale of each and every available ticket.
The Cardinals have announced that their preseason home opener, which will be televised Thursday night on ESPN, is a sellout.
And so at a time when there are plenty of complaints about the use of meaningless exhibition games as a tool for the owners to reel in extra profit by charging the same amount for tickets but paying the players far less money, fans don’t care.
They/we want our football, even if it’s only glorified practice.
The Cardinals have sold out every game played in the stadium they christened two years ago.

While the pink taco has helped ticket sales, its not the reason this game is sold out. In order to buy season tickets you have to buy the pre-season games. So the majority of tickets were sold to season ticket holders who likely give a little more about this preseason game then the players themselves (who don’t care at all). Additonally, the Cardinals put together a package where in order to get a ticket to Cowboys home game you had to buy a ticket to this lousy preseason game. Preseason sucks, its just another way for the NFL to make money. Why don’t they just extend the season by four games. There is no reason to play practice games, which no one cares about.

Good point. Florio screwed the pooch on this one. The question is - how many ticket owners will actually show up, and not fob off their tickets to a buddy.

The Saints O is going to be top 5, there is no question about it. I’m very intereseted on how the addition of Vilma and Ellis will help our defense.

I must admit that I’m not a fan of preseason either, but as a Steelers fan, I can’t help but wonder where a guy like Willie Parker would be without preseason games. They do matter a lot to some players.

There is no way this game would have been sold out if the AZ Cardinals had not required the Cowboys fans to buy Saints tickets as well. Tickets for this game were available on craigslist almost immediately after they went on sale. The Cardinals continue to toot their own horn, but without the ludicrous “Protect the Nest” package, this becomes the first non-sellout at Jiffy-Pop Stadium. Of course then they would just trumpet that all of the ‘regular’ season games have been sellouts. What a joke!

i dont think deuce is what he used to be, so even the addition of shock-the-monkey isnt getting them to be a top 5 O.
