In an interview with Newy Scruggs of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and NBC 5, Cowboys safety Roy Williams makes it clear that he is motivated to have a big year in 2008, primarily because of criticism he has received from the media.
As to negative remarks about his abilities, Williams says, “It fueled me. It fueled me up. That’s why this season is going to be a good season. I got a lot of people to shut up.”
He admits that he isn’t thick-skinned. “Why should I have thick skin?” Williams said. “I am a human being. I’m not saying I’m a sensitive person, but when you attack somebody’s character and you don’t have anything positive to say about somebody, why should I be overjoyed to be having an interview with somebody who’s been tearing me up, and you have all these other fans buying into the stuff . . . and it’s not even correct.”
The primary knock on Williams relates to his skills (or lack thereof) in pass coverage. But he sees no problems in this regard. “I feel great about them. I feel great about my cover skills. Great,” he said.
But the questions about Williams didn’t intensify simply because members of the media have a bias against Williams. Instead, Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis threw jet fuel on the embers of a controversy when he said in May 2008 that Williams believes he doesn’t fit coach Wade Phillips’ defense, and that Williams has been isolating himself from teammates.

Roy Williams has a chip on his shoulder? I hope it takes him straight down, and doesn’t have to resort to grabbing him by the horse-collar…

Yeah, Greg Ellis usually isn’t happy but if he’s anywhere close to it, he’s going to make sure that everybody knows that someone else might not be. I’ve always liked him but the drama is tiresome and I’m ready for the Anthony Spencer era to begin.
Strong safeties that excel in coverage are called free safeties or cornerbacks. The media needs to go pick on Polamalu or Dawkins or something. Talk about guys that get by on past rep… Williams had more picks than both of those guys put together last year.

Williams just hasn’t been the same since Darren Woodson retired. Williams was great when he had veteran leadership to nudge him in the right direction, as well as cover the back half of the field so that Roy could play closer to LOS. But when Roy has to think on his own, the team suffers for it.

You know, Roy Williams. The guy that put Donovan McNabb’s career on the skids almost single-handedly by breaking TO’s leg and starting that whole thing going then snatching victory from the jaws of defeat by intercepting a late McNabb pass and scoring a TD in with it Philly on a play that saw McNabb strain his entire vag AND an ovary trying to run him down. You know, Roy Williams.

Yeah, the Roy Williams that hit that WR from the Titans and broke every large bone from waist down…if team mates have to fight…(see Steve Smith)….it would be cool if Roy would whip Turd Owens ass just for the fun of it…

Vox Crapitus is such a cowflops homo-er that, unlike those (relatively few) Dallas “fans” with even a scintilla of football insight, he is incapable of admitting (or worse yet, understanding) that his cherished Roy-boy absolutely sucks. For every big hit he gets, he whiffs or blows coverage on 3 or more good gains for the opposition. Those are odds I’ll take every time.
IOW, Williams is the most overrated player in the game today.
Personally, I hope he works out his differences with his coaches and teammates and stays in the Dallas backfield for a long time. Go Roy! (Whifffffffffffff!)

Are you kidding me? Roy Williams STINKS. Plain and simple. Any offensive coordinator with a functioning brain would salivate at the chance to go against this overrated coverage embarrassment any day. Anyone who would rather have the crappy Roy Williams (as opposed to the talented Detroit Roy Williams) in their secondary over Dawkins or Polamalu is obviously mentally challenged. More interceptions? Who gives a crap? He should have lots because every friggin’ team targets him on game day. When 90% of the passes come your way you get more opportunities - it’s called simple math. How pathetic is it that the only career “highlights” mostly revolve around injuring other players with, at best, questionable tactics.

You fanbois need to start thinking for yourselves and stop getting your opinions spoon-fed to you by the media. You’re right, you wouldn’t want to look at something like interceptions to compare defensive backs hahahaha
By the way…
Williams first six seasons = 19 INTs, 3 for TDs
Dawkins first six seasons = 18 INTs and he has 2 career TDs
Polamalu’s first five seasons = 10 INTs and he ain’t gonna get 9 in ‘08. 1 INT for a TD.
Besides, Polamalu and Dawkins are china dolls compared to Roy Williams. They look great watching from the sidelines in street clothes though.
