Free-agent punter Todd Sauerbrun, who was suspended four games in 2006 for violation of the policy regarding banned subtances, has been suspended four games for violation of the Personal Conduct Policy, according to Bill Williamson of ESPN.com.

Sauerbrun’s suspension arises from a December 2007 incident involving a cab driver.  Charged with assault and failure to pay a cab fare, Sauerbrun pleaded guilty in May 2008 to disturbing the peace, but then proclaimed his innocence and vowed to sue the cab driver for defamation.

The development creates further confusion regarding the things that will and won’t get a guy suspended.  Sauerbrun had no history of violations of the Personal Conduct Policy, but was nailed with a four-game banishment for disturbing the peace.  Meanwhile, Bills running back Marshawn Lynch was involved in a hit and run, and escaped any punishment after pleading guilty to a mere traffic offense.

Here’s a recent item from SportingNews.com (yeah, we pimp our own stuff there) regarding the recent inconsistencies that have arisen in the application of the Personal Conduct Policy.
