Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Packers quarterback Brett Favre currently plans to accept the Packers’ shameless bribe marketing deal and un-unretire from the NFL.
Schefter points out that the decision isn’t final, and that it could change and has changed already. As of right now, however, Favre’s inclination is to take the money and not run. Or throw.
Meanwhile, Chris Mortensen of ESPN recently reported that Commissioner Roger Goodell asked for a resolution of the situation by the end of the day on Saturday, and that the Packers are hoping that Favre doesn’t report in time for a Sunday night scrimmage at Lambeau Field. Mort says that family members are urging Favre to get on a plane for Green Bay on Sunday.
As we see it, it’s possible that Favre is putting out the word that he’s taking the money so that he can call a press conference on Sunday and declare that it’s not about the money, it’s never been about the money, and he wants to play football.
We’re told that, if Favre shows up, the team’s plan is to put him at the bottom of the depth chart, continue to try to trade him, and if they can’t they’ll cut him on the eve of the regular season opener.

The Packers deserve no respect and if Favre takes the money he deserves no respect.

I love this website, really I do, but sometimes you need to know when NOT to report stories that aren’t true. ESPN has been reporting all day that Favre is leaning towards NOT taking the money and showing up in Green Bay on Monday instead. Yet, your headline story is currently…”Favre to take the money”…Adam Schefter is an idiot journalist who is trying to make a story out of nothing!! Favre will be in Green Bay on Sunday night, bet on it!!!

I’ve given Favre the benefit of the doubt over this whole thing because it seemed he had made a mistake and all he wanted to do was continue playing, but if he takes this deal I will have lost all respect for him.

No doubt his agent was pushing him to play so he could get paid his 3% on a new deal with a new team. Then, when he saw he could pocket a larger commission on the “marketing” deal, decided to convince Favre that he was better off taking the deal and preserving his “legacy” in GB.
The packers should make Favre wear a big cheese suit before every home game and hand out free samples for the next 10 years…

i just don’t get all this.
if i’m a packers fan, i want the best players playing and regardless of a few bad picks here and there, favre gives that team the best chance at winning. even if he doesn’t, give an open competition and see who wins it. if rogers wins it, then no big deal and favre gets his money and earns it, if not, then favre is your best shot at winning and IMO, he is at the very least still a top 10 qb in this league. maybe still top 5.
it’s all about power and the packers brass are threatened by favre and popularity, and if i am a packers fan, that would kill me because then, it’s all about there jobs, instead of winning.
–like they would be the only ones. but don’t offer 20 mil for your insecurity. hey, atleast i don’t own stock, otherwise i would be looking at to change my vote one way or another at the annual meeting.

Florio -
I am just a bit curious. When this “personal service contract” story was first leaked, it was spun by TeamFavre to be a bribe. It has since come out that this was an offer that was on the table to Favre since the day he retired. It is not totally unprecidented since Miami did a very similar thing with Dan Marino. It has been confirmed by multiple sources with the league that the Packers’ version of events is pretty accurate. So, that said, why do you continue to push this “bribe” angle. It is clearly not true, since it was not an act of despiration by the Packers as you continue to portray. So, since there is clearly credible evidence out there that the Favre camp was lying (again), I have to ask why you continue to ignore this part of the story and continue to push your agenda of making the Packers look despirate and unethical? Just wondering what your motivation is??

Adam Schefter’s a lot of things, but he’s not an idiot.
The Packers have made countless millions off of Favre, and will continue to do so, this is pennies to them. He’s got no integrity at all.

To p4ackers:
What exactly do you think is the purpose of this site? To report things that have already happened? I think this story deserves merit and Florio’s take may turn out to be right on the money. Yeah, Favre deserves some flack about coming back, but the Pack gets way more crapdos in this than Brett. If the dude really just wants to play football, let him. I just can’t see this whole thing being about money for him.

Honestly I think you’re all being a little ridiculous. Favre retired prematurely because it seemed like everyone was egging him on for a decision, when he clearly was not ready to make one yet. So now he decides he might want to play, and the Packers offer him $20 mil to re-retire? Can you really blame Favre for considering the offer, I mean, he’s only human. How many of us would turn down 20 mil? None. You’re all being hypocrites. If anything the Packers are the embarassment for reducing a legacy into a dollar amount. Favre is like Odysseus and the Packers “marketing deal” is like the Sirens… if any of you people know anything about Greek mythology. They should be faulted for trying to tempt him. I don’t understand. If they don’t want him to play, then why not trade him? The franchise is like a bratty child who won’t share a toy that he’s not even playing with. I feel bad for Brett. Everybody should lay off.

I hope Brett reads this blog because I hope he realizes what an asshole he seems to be. Quit the games. If you wanna play, show up in Green Bay. If you want to be remembered only as a guy who threw his whole legacy in the dumper, then take a pathetic “solution” from the packers and go rot in Mississippi.
