Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Commissioner Roger Goodell said that he’ll take no action on Friday regarding quarterback Brett Favre’s request for reinstatement to the Green Bay Packers.
Per Schefter, Goodell said that productive discussions are still occurring, and that with such discussions occurring there is no need for him to act on the reinstatement petition.
Clearly, Favre has no problem with this approach. Otherwise, Favre would be demanding action.
And so it appears that Favre is continuing to ponder the money-for-nothing offer that the Packers have made. As we see it, however, the only way that Favre can emerge from this mess with his legacy preserved is to tell the Packers to shove it, and continue his quest to play again.
Meanwhile, we’ve got a brand-new PFTV segment on the situation, for your perusal.

This is a bad Deal Or No Deal episode, at least Dan Marino has a firm hold on one record, his integrity.

What is with GODell… why not stop putting this off, it is gonna happen no matter what, it sounds to me like TT is all over Goodell like white on rice to not make a move here, just delaying the inevatable. Farve is goign to apply for reinstatement no matter what, he as already said option Number One, Play for the Pack (better go to option 2), Option 2 Play for someone else (i.e Vikes, Bucks, Jets), or Option 3 take the bribe. So untill option 2 is exahusted which can’t even take place till he is reinstated nothing is going to happen here, i can’t figure this guy out, the No Fun League is already bad enough without classy fun to watch guys like Farve, why stop him from trying to get in game shape and up to speed with a new offence?? Thanks GODell

Gotta hand it to Favre in one regard. As bad as he has made this situation, if he wanted to be a jerk about it he could demand reinstatement now, and show up to camp to make it a huge mess. He’s probably just doing it out of respect for his (ex)temmates that he still loves, but if he really wanted to push the team he would be there already.

Someone should tell Favre to shove it. IF he just wanted to play for “love of the game”, then he would be willing to talk to the Jets and the Bucs. He wants to dictate where he plays, he is a prima donna who thinks he is bigger than the game. And,if he wanted to play so bad (boo hoo) he would not be comtemplating taking the 20 million, he would play anywhere. He doesn’t love the game, he loves the spotlight and the money. PLEASE JUST GO AWAY BRETT

Has Favre filed his paperwork? Yes? Then it needs to be acted on in the same way that it would be for any other player/team; no special delays, etc. This special treatment by the commish is getting ridiculous.

I don’t think it’s “money for nothing.” It’s more like “Brett, we don’t want you to play, but we want you to remain the face of the franchise in retirement, because we aren’t convinced we can survive financially without you; and if we struggle, the whole city-owned thing prevents us from bailing to a larger market.”

Again, the supoosed $20 mil is NOT contingent on Favre’s retirement. It will be there even if he palys.
Wow, is FAvre writing articles under your name?

FAVRE has not love for the game, only the love for HIMSELF. Why would he take the money (BRIBE). GODell should be reinstating him now.
Next GODell will rule in favor of the LACKERS on the tampering charge and give the LACKERS more incentives, this really reeks.
Screw the NFL, they really suck.

I talked to a friend who has had business dealings with Bus Cook in the past, and when this mess first began he said that he believed it was about money for Brett. I shrugged it off at the time, but he said mark my words. Now it looks like he was pretty astute in his assessment.

The winning is just beginning for Brett Favre either way. Think of Brett Favre doing Info Commericals! He make $20M or just doing more in Book deals, personal speaking and playing two more years in the league. (insert Taco Bill Picture here)
The only questions is where is he going to screw up his last part of QB career with?? Jets, Bucs, Bears???? The freak Show continues! LOL

The Packers FO has screwed this up to the point that the best QB of all time has to take $20,000,000 to NOT play for them or anyone else? I have to admit I would think a lot less of him as the best ever if he were to take the money. But the money is really for the Packer players, the fans and the Front office to save themselves the tremendous embarassment of seeing their Hall of Fame QB and face of the franchise play for the another team. Why don’t they let him play? Aaron Rodgers is not a sure thing. He will get hurt and even if Brett was the back up it wouldn’t be long before Rodgers get’s hurt. The season can’t start soon enough for me so all this goes away. Quickly once the live ammo starts to fly. And I am Vikings fan. I can’t wait to see who ever the Packer QB is opening night.

I’ve read so much of this crap and not commented I can’t take it anymore. There are so many Favre haters out there it’s sickening. As far as I’m concerned you’re just jealous because your teams haven’t had someone like Favre. He’s been the greatest thing that’s ever happened to this long and storied team and what the current management is doing to him is disgusting. Yes, I am not a fan of his waffling on retirement over the last few years either, but if this managment would have made it clear they wanted him back at the end of the season he probably would have come back right away. It should be obvious. Management’s job is to create a team that wins. On one hand you have a three time MVP winner who ended up in the pro-bowl as one of the top few QB’s in the league last year while taking the youngest team in the league to the NFC Championship game. On the other hand you have a Rodgers who has started one game which he got knocked out of with a season ending injury. Hello? Ted Thompson is the one with the ego that needs to be checked. How can this butthead deny Packer fans another season of watching their favorite player ever?

favre is not a football player nor does he have intentions of playing football. the only thing brett favre has done is show a franchise and a league that his name pretty much enables him to do anything he wants. i give all the credit to the green bay packers franchise and its sad to see a legend become so corrupt. to be honest brett should just take the money and crawl back to mississpi to preserve his legacy
