QB Kyle Orton looked sharp for the second straight practice during Thursday afternoon’s session.
Several players were held out of practice with minor injuries, but the injury that most concerns the Bears is rookie OT Chris Williams’ back.
CB Charles Tillman was excused from practice for personal reasons.
CB Corey Graham is playing well and getting more reps in Tillman’s absence.
Former Bears DT Dan Hampton is covering the team for a local radio station.
Said DT Dusty Dvoracek, “One personal goal is stay healthy all year and play in every game. That’s my No. 1 goal. Start all the games and stay healthy and finish the season strong and no more season-ending injuries.”
Coach Lovie Smith likes John Lynch but doesn’t want him on the Bears.
Said Smith of the report that the Packers might trade Brett Favre within the division, “it doesn’t affect us, we have our quarterbacks.”
One local columnist says it’s absurd that the Bears would claim they don’t need Favre.
Said LB Brian Urlacher of the Bears getting Favre, “I don’t see it ever happening. If it does, we have a Hall-of-Fame quarterback playing for us. If not, we have two good quarterbacks as it is.”
Said QB Rex Grossman, “It’s hard to escape because you hear Favre this, Favre that. I try not to pay attention because I don’t really care.”
Bears S Mike Brown doesn’t want Favre in the division: “If he goes to the Vikings, that is a huge deal. That would definitely, I would say, make them the favorite in the NFC.”

It makes the casual fans insane. The real fans understand. In football, nothings ever as good or as bad as it seems.
Who should the bears have gotten? Who, realistically, should we have drafted or signed? Quick breakdown on drafts.
2008:
Ryan-gone
Flacco-no way we couldnt address oline at 13.
Brohm, Henne-you could make arguements here, but we really needed a RB. We had Bumson starting!!
The rest of those guys werent going to be any better than Rex or Orton this year.
2007
Olsen was an absolute no brainer at 31.
2006
we drafted orton this year, so the game stops.
So theres the drafts. What about free agents? Name one good free agent in the last 2 years and you got me. 2008? No one good. 2007? Shaub, maybe. But they gave up picks for him.

What should they say? Even when they make a joke, if it was one, like Tommie Harris said about McNabb a while back the media firestorm that follows isn’t worth it. The blood sucking media is looking for any controversy they can to sell papers and ad time because they know people love controversy. No matter what team it is, but more so for Chicago and the NY teams because those are the largest media markets in the nation, they have to be careful what they say because who knows how far it can go.
The players may not always seem smart, but when it comes to this they are acting very approriately.

I just don’t understand how the Bears can possibly think they are in good shape at the QB position. I’m not sold on this team even making the playoffs this season. I think this team is headed down the same road last season. Every year in the NFL, your team must be better than the previous season, even if you won the Superbowl. Personally I think the Bears didn’t want to upgrade the QB position…maybe they are thinking about possibly making a run at D. McNabb after the season, since the Eagles obvioulsy don’t appreciate his services anymore.

Based on reports here and elsewhere, there is something incredibly clear to me:
Kyle Orton and Chad Pennington should be starting for their respective teams and the sooner their coaches move forward on this, the better.

Lovie tows the company line and does whatever Angelo wants.
That is why Rex Grossman is still in the mix here. Angelo MUST have this pick work after so many bad offensive picks and he is going to milk it for as long as he can.
Granted there are no hall of fame QBs available but you don’t have to have Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to make it to the Super Bowl.
Getting there with Rex already proved that.
Are they going to wait for McNabb to be completly washed up and THEN bring him in? We have already seen Kordell Stewart.
What do you have to lose by trying someone like Chris Simms at QB? At least try!
I have been a Bears fan for 40 years and I am still waiting for a QB.
