Once upon a time, NFL types who read ProFootballTalk felt like they couldn’t admit to it. (We never quite understood why.)
Though some folks still staunchly deny taking a peek at this space (e.g., King Carl), more and more players and agents and coaches and front-office types are willing to acknowledge that they are card-carrying members of PFT Planet.
The latest? Bills punter Brian Moorman outs himself as a multiple-times-per-day visitor, in his blog on BuffaloBills.com.
Says Moorman: “I was just informed that this blog made the Buffalo Bills one liners a couple of days ago on Profootballtalk.com. That’s really a lie. I saw it myself. I check that site about 5 times a day.”
Then again, maybe Moorman’s decision to admit that he’s a reader isn’t evidence of our arrival in the mainstream. Maybe he’s still feeling the effects of this.

Florio, I’m not sure what’s more embarrassing — that he reads pft, or that you read a punter’s blog.

I was living in D.C. during that Pro Bowl. First of all, Sean Taylor was a terrible player. Congratulations, you made Adam Archuleta look bad. Brandon McGowan did that, too. And then he died, so he became a wonderful person and had the potential to be the greatest safety ever. Anyway, I got so sick and tired of hearing the morons that I worked with who wouldn’t shut up about what a great hit it was. A.) It’s the Pro Bowl. B.) You tackled a punter. Let it go. I would have taken Brian Moorman on my team any day of the week before I let Sean Taylor sniff the jock straps in the laundry bin.

I get pissed off whenever I see this clip. Shawn Taylor is that kid who always tried WAY too hard in gym class. I think he should earn an automatic spot on the All-Time On-Field Turd List. Way to go Shawn!

What a horses–t tackle. But everyone loves it, and he gets to dance around because it was a great hit. A good running back would have bounced off that and picked up 5 more yards.

Hey DrDipso, Just because you lived in DC doesn’t give you the right to b!tch about A) Taylor, B)The Skins, or C) The people you work with who probabaly didn’t like you anyway. You’re probably one of the million Cowgirls fans that live in the area, but yet have never been in Texas before.

This is in response to DrDipsomania’s post. What a class act you are. Disrespected someone who was murdered in his own home with his girlfriend and child hiding under a bed. He might not have been the world’s greatest safety…but to say he was a terrible player is ridiculous. Look at his stats that put him in the pro bowl that year. You minimize his skills by taking one play he made that just happened to be on a punter. All you have to do is go to youtube and watch one of his highlight videos to watch an amazing young talent with nothing but potential. You are the moron. RIP #21.

ease up guys. DrDipsomania has a right to express his opinion not because he lives in Washington, but because he has an opinion.
I don’t agree with how he said what he said, but he’s right about his two mains points- it’s the probowl, and it’s a punter.
That clip doesn’t show Shawn as the classy player we all hope to remember him as. In order to remember Shawn Taylor as a class act on and off the field certain incidents have to be neglected (which is perfectly acceptable to do, imho).
1. 2004 DUI arrest in Virginia
2. 2005 Armed assult arrest in Miami
3. popping a punter during the probowl.
His traggic end indeed warrants compassion, and it would be classless to slander the dead. But if somebody chooses to consider more than his brutal murder in remembering him, i don’t see any problem with that. Hopefully people will also consider his efforts to clean up his act, which ended prematurely with his murder.

Of course he can have his opinion, but the fact that he stated that he lived in DC seems to me like he is using that to qualify his statements. I loved Sean Taylor from his days back at the U. And yes, his off field activities indicated how immature he was at one point in his life. But the true tragedy here (almost greek tragedy, hubris etc.) is the fact that he was murdered just when he was turning his life around for his daughter. So yeah, he screwed up as a young adult, but people have the right/will to change right?

i totally agree with you.
but if you’re chosing to be critical of DrDipsomania actions, while chosing to forgive Shawn Taylors for his actions, i just see some incongruity.
In the same ways you chose to not be critical of Shawn Taylors indescretions, i would recommend extending that further… even to strangers on the interweb who say things you might not agree with.
Your judgment of a celebrity, or a random internet user doesn’t have immediate impact on anybody but yourself. The only time it does radically affect the other person is for the negative, usually the product of defamatory comments. Do we want others negatively affect our lives because they believe their morals are truer than ours? And if we don’t want others trying to negatively us, why would we chose to negatively affect others?
forgiveness and acceptance have hugely practical applications.
