Bucs coach Jon Gruden was asked after practice on Tuesday whether quarterback Jeff Garcia has been able to block out “distractions.”
Gruden didn’t appreciate the question.
“You know what, I don’t know what we’re talking about,” Gruden said. “I’m so tired of it, really. He’s one of the most mentally-tough human beings I’ve been around. If you know Jeff Garcia, you know what I’m talking about. I really don’t think this is worth talking about, personally. He’s doing a great job as he always does. He’s one of the most mentally-tough guys I’ve ever met and I’ll leave it at that.”
Hey, Jon — if you’re tired of it, there’s one way to deal with it. Announce, in no uncertain terms, that Brett Favre won’t be the quarterback of the Bucs in 2008.
Unless and until you’re willing to do that, don’t complain about human beings behaving like human beings.

Didn’t the Packers announce that Favre would not be the qb of the Packers…..and yet, people are still asking if Favre WILL be the qb of the Packers.
even if Gruden announces that Favre wont be the qb of the Bucs, people will still be asking him if Favre will be the qb for the Bucs

Unfortunately Nick Saban kind of destroyed the credibility of a statement like that.

Gruden the great manipulator of the media. Give them open ended answers and then bitch and complain about the questions.
Give Gruden credit, he is a master with the media. Especially the dumbass clowns of the local rags and radio in Tampa.

Not only what matt m said, but if the front office is working on something, and assuming Gruden has no say in the matter of acquiring Favre, then he can’t really come out and say that Favre won’t be the QB without looking like a liar if Favre does end up coming to town, now can he?
For a guy who prides himself in reading deeper into things, Florio has missed a lot of these lobbed balls lately.
Or maybe he just likes causing controversy. Not that THAT’s ever been the case…

Hey, Coach - you do know what the media is talking about. That said, you might be right in that Garcia is mentally tough. After all, he’s watched you accumulate 10 QBs on the roster.
This raises the question, is Gruden the most overrated coach in the NFL?

tomslk is an idiot. This turd is doing more whining than Gruden ever has. Gruden has a ring, a-holes. I know, I know - Dungy’s Bucs, right. So was it Mora’s Colts?
Lynch, Sapp, Brooks, Barber, Allstott, Johnson. Guess how many were drafted by Dungy?

Bavaro89 and tomslk, STFU. Gruden is a far better coach than Coughlin, Dungy, Cowher, Billick or any other Coach who won one Super Bowl. For the assclowns that say Gruden won the Super Bowl with Dungy’s team, two points: Dungy could not win with Dungy’s team and the team Gruden won with had many key additions.
As for why Gruden has had so many QBs, it is because the ones he has had have sucked. Brad Johnson was an ancient wooden indian, Simms is stupid and slow, Griese has the arm strength of a 5 year old. Mix in Rob Johnson and Tim Rattay for fun. How is it Gruden’s fault they are lousy?
As for Florio the Idiot, the local media are not “human beings behaving like human beings,” they are lazy fatasses behaving like lazy fatasses. Steve DUemIg and Ian Beckles, the Canadian Moron, leading the way.

I fail to understand how this article makes Florio a Bucs hater. He has been centered on the Favre controversy for a while, and this is just another part of it. He often makes statements like the one he did in this article. It wasn’t exactly hateful. All he said is “If you are tired of the questions, then just give a definitive answer, and that will get rid of them.” He is pointing out that Gruden didn’t do that, which leaves the door open on the whole Favre saga. If the Bucs were not interested in Favre, and bringing him in as QB, Gruden could and probably would have stated just that.
That doesn’t make him a hater. While Florio’s logic often leaves a lot to be desired, that is a side affect of his profession. Lawyers get paid to make people come to conclusions that aren’t necessarily the only conclusion available (or even the most likely). They are trained in that. That doesn’t make him a Bucs hater, just a lawyer. They tend to piss people off because of that aspect of their nature.

Ian Beckles is the”Canadian Moron.” I thought that title was held by Mike Vanderjagt.
Oh, wait, he’s the “Canadian Idiot,” as christened by Peyton Manning.
It’s a good thing we Canadians aren’t able to accept British knighthoods or other honorific titles. The potential for titular modifiers would be practically endless.
Heh, heh . . . I said “titular.”

Modhairken,
First, don’t ever tell me to STFU. If you disagree with me (or another poster on this site), try writing a rebuttal that is above a second grade level to convince the readers that your point is right.
Second, you state that Gruden is better than Coughlin, Cowher, and Dungy (and presumably Mike Holmgren since he won only 1 SuperBowl). Well, you’re obviously an idot. Check out those guys annual records. Their teams make or made the postseason just about every season. Their teams contend for the Super Bowl most seasons. Further, most of those guyswill likely receive a bust in Canton (that’s the Hall of Fame, in case you don’t know). It’s a surprise these days when Gruden’s Bucs make the playoffs. He’s a joke.
Third, you assert that Gruden collects QBs b/c they all stink. Umm, GRUDEN is the one who falls in love with them and brings them to Tampa. At some point, he realizes that he’ll never catch lightning in a bottle again like he did with Rich Gannon, and moves on to the next project. It’s also a sneaky way to buy more time with the organization. It’s pathetic.

assuming favre isnt traded or re-retired. when u think yer good or close… the temptation to pull the trigger will generate some offers.

I seem to recall an article here where the Jets said that they were not interested in Favre, and yet there is still speculation that he will be going to NY. The media, and BFT, will always speculate on the Favre issue (at least 20 times a day) no matter what Jon or anyone else says.

Sounds like Gruden is misunderestimating (thanks to W for that one) the ability of folks to see through his non-answers. I’ve always thought Gruden is one of the worst when it comes to double-speak. He tells you absolutely NOTHING.
I personally think the Bucs are trying like heck to get Favre, and in the meantime Gruden is trying to salve Garcia’s ego in case a Favre deal doesn’t go through.
The Bucs are the strangest of teams when it comes to quarterbacks. Kind of like having a large collection of plasticware when what is needed is a few pieces of good china.
