Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez says that he’s 95 percent certain that he’ll return for at least another season after 2008, according to the Kansas City Star.
The only thing that would prompt him to walk away? A Super Bowl win.
So, basically, there’s a 100 percent chance that Gonzalez will be back for 2009.
Gonzalez also realizes (wisely) that there’s a business component to the decision. “I just signed my contract last year,” he said. “If I did retire, I’d probably have to do like Barry Sanders and give some money back. I don’t know if I want to do that. I’m not saying I wouldn’t.”

I’m pretty sure I would retire too, as that a Chiefs Super Bowl win would be the first sign of the Apocalypse, and I’d need the time off to dig a bomb shelter.

Ha! I thought that exactly after reading the first sentence.

Tony’s a great guy…but the Chiefs aren’t winning the Super Bowl folks. If they beat Oakland for third place in their division Herm Edwards will get votes for coach of the year.

Class act guy and future hall of famer. Really wish he could have gotten at least one shot at a Super Bowl

The Chiefs need to do the right thing and release Gonzalez so he has a chance to play for a winner before he retires.

He’s 95% certain that he’ll return, but he won’t if the Chiefs win a Superbowl. That means Gonzo gives the Chiefs a 5% shot at winning the championship. Not bad odds, Chiefs fans.

So let’s see,
1. The Chiefs winning the Superbowl!
2. Al Davis being voted “NFL Executive of the Year”!
3. Brett Farve staying retired!
4. Emitt Smith being voted “Orator of the Year!
Well actually, there’s a SLIGHT chance of Al being executive of the year if the ACL gods (and common sense gods for Walker) smile on the franchise. But those look like the four biggest lies of the year!

Coco, ALMOST anything can happen in the NFL. In case you missed HBO Hardknocks last summer, the Chiefs’ head coach, Mr. Herman Edwards is not exactly the game day strategist to lead an under talented team without a decent QB. I’m not even sure that Herm knows about the internet yet.

So he’s actually leaving the option open to pay money back not to play for the Chiefs another year - isnt that the “Jake Plummer” option?
