Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has taken the next big step toward ending his retirement.
According to Mortensen, Favre this afternoon faxed a letter to the NFL offices in which he formally sought his reinstatement. That means NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will soon reinstate Favre, and then he’s back on the Packers’ active roster.
At that point, the Packers will have a choice to make. They can either release Favre and let him become an unrestricted free agent, they can trade him, or they can allow him to show up to training camp as an active member of the team. The ball is in Ted Thompson’s court.

I still don’t know why he had to apply for reinstatement with the league if he didn’t submit retirement papers to the league.
Yes, I know the Packers put him on the retired/reserve list, but what does that have to do with the league?

Finally that flip-flopping farmer john has decided to push his chips into the middle. I hope they simply release him this week and let him go. I think only the Bears and Bucs are serious in their interest. However if the Vikes grab him, week one will be the best opening monday night game that I can remember.

I noticed that Brett was merely the #2 topic on most national sports radio shows today. He felt it was time he got some much-deserved attention, I guess.

Favre wanted to start for Green Bay or get his release. The only other team he wanted to play for is Minnesota.
His ultimate goal is his release.
Much like Vinny T., since the Packers don’t want him, he would like to be able to come in a save a playoff bound team whose starter goes down wihtout being bound to a contract.
The Ghost of Christmas Future needs to visit Ebeneezer Thompson tonight and show him what the future holds if he sacks Brett Cratchit and what will happen if there is a hobbled Tiny Aaron. God Bless Us All - Everyone.

Favre is used to being able to skip drills and practices whenever he wants. Hope he enjoys his new workout regimen.
If he’s a gunner on special teams, does that count as “starting?” Maybe he could continue his streak.
Here’s another question: Does Favre have a section in his contract saying he has to approve of any trade? Because his ass could end up on a cold weather team with an established starter in exchange for a conditional 7th rounder.
NOBODY WANTS YOU, FAVRE. GMs PREFER TO CALL THEIR OWN SHOTS, NOT TO BE DICTATED TO BY THE QB. HCs and OCs TOO.
Except maybe that dumbass Childress, of course. He needs all the pointers he can get.

Wow, that’s an insightful report. I can’t imagine all the work it must take a hard boiled journalist to have dug that gem up.
Are you sure sending number duhhhhhhh to the trantium mines of Planet Xarvox isn’t an option? I could have sworn that article #23,789 of 387,672 articles posted on Favre in the last 24 of your earth hours said as much.

Now other teams will know that Favre is truly back in the league, and Ted Thompson is open for trade business.
Thompson will not release Favre any time soon .. so if anyone wants to add a pro-bowl, hall of fame type qb to their roster they better come with a quality offer.
The media circus will be a pain in the butt for the players, but sometimes these things make teams stronger .. look at the “us against the world” attitude the Pats took last year. It helped fuel them to an undefeated regular season.
In the end the players are grown men .. they’ll be able to handle the media coverage fine.
When it’s all said and done Favre will be on another team, partially of the Packers choosing, and Ted Thompson will have got the value he was looking for all along.

Wahoo!!!
Now TT will have to man up and either release Favre or trade him to whoever, or risk a team issue by keeping him, and take whatever consequences come from any decisions instead of wussing out.

Why is Thompson so scared of him signing with the Bears or Vikes, anyway? Shouldn’t he have enough confidence in his squad to beat either team?

inmymind = Brad Childress (”I think only the Bears and Bucs are serious in their interest.”) Really? The Vikes aren’t interested?
The only solution for the Packers is to trade him to a team that he DOESN’T want to go to. He won’t report and at worst the Packers will have to give back the draft pick, but the team that agrees to this will be able to re-coup some of Farve’s bonus money (ala Bucs-Plummer).

The Bucs are losing interest fast. Garcia came in and looked very good at practice, handled himself well in front of the media. Garcia has a year in this offense under his belt and wants to play. It would be a big gamble to bring in Favre, who can only be described at this point as a flake.
Garcia threw 14 TDs and 3 INTs last year, and with the RBs on the team and Faine at center, the Bucs do not need a 3,000 yard passer.
The team loves Garcia. Derrick Brooks stopped practice yesterday during a drill to reach across the line of scrimmage and shake Garcia’s hand and welcome him back to the team. DB was sending a message to the Coaches.
“Lukewarm” Favre ain’t going to be welcomed with open arms at Disney. Let the Jets have Favre. They deserve each other.

I’m a Packer fan first, and was a Brett Favre fan second. I say trade him to the Vikes for first and third round conditional picks. Then sit back and watch the Packers secondary intercept every freakin’ airball that egomaniac lofts up in the air!!!
