In March the Pittsburgh Steelers terminated the contract of receiver Cedrick Wilson less than a day after he was arrested for punching his former girlfriend.

Wilson hasn’t been able to get a job with an NFL team since then, but he is still in football — he’s now a high school assistant coach. Wilson is the offensive coordinator at Douglass High School in Memphis, working for his own former high school coach.

I would love to [be] back in the NFL,” Wilson told a local TV station. “If that doesn’t happen, I’m fine with coaching here at Douglass High School. Football has been my life, all my life. To be able to be around it [as a coach], I’m still a part of football. It’s my life and I want it to continue to be my life.”

The 29-year-old Wilson is also taking classes at the University of Memphis and says he needs about 15 credit hours to get his degree. He hopes to become a teacher.

Wilson played four seasons for the 49ers and three for the Steelers. Last year he caught 18 passes for 207 yards.
