With Bengals receiver Chad Johnson reporting to training camp, we’re told that the team is willing to take a serious look at renegotiating Johnson’s contract after the season if he behaves himself during the 2008 campaign.
The current situation, then, can be called a “positive truce,” with the ugliness of Chad’s offseason antics behind the player and the team, and the team interested in taking steps to keep the player happy and productive if the player can be happy and productive from now until January.
Based on the manner in which Johnson conducted himself in the offseason, we’ll believe that Johnson can behave himself on a consistent basis once we see that Johnson can behave himself on a consistent basis.

This situation goes to show you that players and exec’s are HUMAN. So much is based on what people are saying on the record vs speculation behind closed doors.
Nobody thought this would ever work out and it seems like both sides are willing to put this behind them. Paging Thompson/Favre!

Redoing a deal that runs through 2011 is a terrible idea. All you are doing is inviting every player on your team that feels they outplayed their contract to act like a jerk to get new money. If they ever wanted to shed their “Bungles” moniker they sure aren’t acting like it.

They’re just saying that to try and keep him in line. They’re much more likely to use that money at the end of the year to try and keep TJ around.

it is good to see a team willing to take care of players that have produced for them giving the money to players already there and build from within is the way to win in the nfl today

I’m not sure which is funnier: the thought that Mike Brown might actually renegotiate a contract without changing his mind or that Chad Johnson might actually behave long enough to merit a contract renegotiation.
