With pick No. 4 and pick No. 6 signed to rookie deals, the contract of No. 5 overall pick Glenn Dorsey was destined to fall in the middle.
And it did. The fourth pick, Darren McFadden, reportedly inked a six-year, $60 million deal with $26 million in guaranteed money. The sixth pick, Vernon Gholston, gets $50 million over five years, with $21 million guaranteed.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Dorsey will receive $51 million over five, with $23 million guaranteed. The average is over $10 million.
As we hear it, agent Joel Segal wouldn’t even make a proposal to the Chiefs until Gholston was signed, which bolsters his reputaton for not doing a first-round deal until his client is bracketed by signed contracts.
The unknown in all of this is whether the reports are accurate, and whether there’s any fat in the deals that the agents aren’t mentioning when they leak the details to the media. We’ll try to get the full information about the contracts, so that they can be compared to each other, and to last year’s first-round class.

Great. Segal disqualifies himself for doing a contract for the No. 1 draft pick. How smart …

jbchiefs I must say I like your optimism. I think that the Chiefs will be brutality bad this year and we will end up with a very high draft pick. Luckily for us the other teams that should be just as bad Falcons, Raiders, Dolphins, Ravens have their QB’s of the future. Maybe not the Dolphins but we will see. That should leave us with Matt Stafford the QB from Georgia. I really don’t think their has been a can’t miss prospect at the QB position since Carson Palmer but Stafford may be it. 3 years until the Superbowl. Go Chiefs!!
