Hank Williams, Jr. has been singing the opening song for Monday Night Football since 1989. The tradition will continue in 2008, according to the Associated Press.
ESPN spokesman Bill Hofheimer told the AP that Williams will return for year twenty, with Are You Ready For Some Football? based on Williams’ song All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight.
The opening video will be shot in Los Angeles, and Williams has been recording the audio (which usually features a slight change in the lyrics based on the teams playing in each week’s game) in Nashville.
And, yeah, we can’t mention Hank Williams, Jr. without at least running a link to a line that isn’t likely to show up in this year’s (or any year’s) version of the song.

Another reason to turn the game on just in time for the kickoff.

MNF wouldn’t feel right without Hank Jr. singing - it’s gonna be a sad day when he’s done and some pop garbage like NBC uses for SNF gets thrown in the mix.
I never heard about the story in the link before, though. Kind of disappointing - not only did Hank Jr. get shot down by a waitress… he got shot down by a waitress named Holly Hornbeak. Yowch.

Time to stick a fork in him. His tired act jumped the shark about 19 years ago. They should get a decent act or just go back to Dun dun dun dun. Maybe I could stand to tune in to the game again before it actually started.

You must be a Dennis Miller fan - pretentious jackasses flock together.
Realize that the south is the largest market for football (NFL or otherwise), and that folks down here love some Hank Jr. Maybe double-check the pulse you have YOUR finger on before you second guess the guys who run a multi-billion dollar business.
But I’m sure you know better than they do.

Took you 9 minutes to come up with “HEEEEE-HAAAAW”?
I remember a time when jackasses online were actually clever. Now all these 90s babies are mucking it up.
