For the first time since 2003, the Seattle Seahawks have opened training camp with a first-round draft pick in attendance.
Lawrence Jackson, a defensive end from USC chosen 28th overall in April, signed with the Seahawks this morning and was at training camp in time to participate in the first practice.
“That was very important to Lawrence and very important to us,” Jackson’s agent Sean Howard told the Seattle Times.
The 6-foot-4, 271-pound Jackson started 51 of USC’s 52 games during his four years of eligibility. He had 30.5 sacks in his college career.
The contract is reportedly a five-year deal worth $11.25 million, with $6.1 million in guarantees.
