Bills left tackle Jason Peters, who had been clamoring for a new contract throughout the offseason, will continue his quest by staying away from training camp.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported on Thursday night that Peters was contemplating it.  According to the team’s official web site, it’s now official.

Peters isn’t there.

The August 5 deadline that was hanging over the head of Bears receiver Devin Hester doesn’t apply to Peters, who doesn’t need an accrued year under the CBA to be eligible for free agency when his current contract expires after the 2010 season, since he already has four years under his belt.

Still, he faces fines of more than $15,000 per day, along with the possibility of forfeiting 25 percent of his 2008 signing bonus allocation.
