Although Bears receiver/return man Devin Hester reported to training camp today, he did not practice, and multiple media outlets in Chicago are reporting that he has an injured hamstring.
The Daily Herald reports that when Hester was asked if he would practice without a contract extension, he answered, “I have no comment on that.”
But Hester did say he decided to end his brief holdout after Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo and coach Lovie Smith told him they thought they could make progress on a contract extension.
“Progress was starting to move, and it was looking good, so I came back,” Hester said. “I talked to Jerry and coach Lovie, and everything seemed like it was starting to work out in the right order, and we were starting to hear what we liked, so I’m showing up.”
A Chicago sports radio station reported that if the hamstring keeps Hester out for long, the Bears could place him on the non-football injury list.

I wonder if his hammy is “really” hurt.
if his hamstring was hurt before training camp started why risk $30,000.00 in fines by skipping 2 days of camp?
something from hester’s camp doesn’t smell right.

Hester, you’re playing it wrong! The point is to show up and THEN get injured at camp. It’s like a guerilla holdout (see: Steve Smith ‘07).

I suspect that hammy will be just fine after Hester rubs some money on it…

I just came back from watching Bears training Camp And Devin is Fine. frankly this is game being played by both side unitl a deal is reached. The word is that they should have something done by next Monday.
Devin over ruled his agent and decide to sit out thinking it would close the deal sooner but it delayed it in a way! Did anyone notice the number of similiar number of different player hold outs starting to pop up over the league this week.
Some one better get the new collective bargaining agreement in place or there is holy hell for everyone to pay from the owners to fan trying to pay season tickets.

Ohh, that’s why he went to training camp. He had a pre-existing injury and so it was a good idea to go to camp to get some money!

love the guy and hope it isn’t serious but if it is then they should wait untill he proves he is the same hester as before, then give him the raise he wants. if he just would have waited they would have taken care of him. he did not need to act like a baby because they took care of other guys first. he has 2 years left deal with “only” making 500,000 a year. good lord even with taking care of relatives you should not have to stuggle making that kind of money.try spending less on bling if finances are so tough.

David Haugh of the tribune hinted strongly that Hester’s hammy is not really hurt and Lovie is going along with more or less this charade as a compromise with Hester. However someone forgot to tell Hester to keep it on the down low as he appeared to admit to the beat reporter that there was nothing wrong with his hammy that a new contract would not cure. It appears the compromise is Hester is in camp which goes along with Bear policy of only negotiating with someone who is not holding out but the team is letting Devin not practice supposedly respecting his concern about getting hurt in practice.

Mike McKenzie of the Packers pulled the same stunt prior to being traded to NO. Hammies are very difficult to diagnose so team doctors are hard pressed to say it isn’t so. Smart move to save the $15 K per day in fines.

He hurt his Benjaminus hamstring. Its a little known hammy that extends down the leg from the point on the buttox where a back pocket would be.
