Less than two days after suggesting that he was prepared to sit out the entire 2008 season, Bears receiver Devin Hester reported for training camp.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times, Hester arrived on Friday morning, and will practice with the team later today.
But Hester has arrived without the new contract that he wants. And there’s no guarantee that he’ll get his new deal.
Meanwhile, if the Bears choose to push the issue, more than $30,000 of Hester’s 2008 base salary of $445,000 will be forfeited due to Hester’s two-day hiatus.
Finally, here’s a PFTV thing we put together recently regarding the Hester situation, in which we reiterate our belief that Hester would be back by August 5, and that the mere suggestion of sitting out the entire season was stoopid.

Don’t play any high stakes poker with your money Devin, you already lost $30,000 without even getting in the game.

No, you guys are wrong. Devin is the only offensive weapon they have. He may not deserve the WR1 money that he’s looking for but they need to give him a pretty significant raise for almost single-handedly keeping people interested in that franchise last year.

Its an interesting situation because hes really there only offensive weapon. But he doesn’t play any of the major offensive positions. If I was him I would be working out like crazy to be a WR. He does not deserve the kind of money he was looking for unless he can play a mean cornerback or be more than a decoy as a WR

I totally agree with Zerfas. He doesn’t deserve #1 money, but he without a doubt deserves more money. If he can develop into a solid #2 or even a threat from the slot and still keep his return skills at such a high level, he will be one of the most important players in the NFL.
I am happy he’s back in camp and is ready to work on his offensive game.
LET’S GO BEARS!!!

He talked so much shit and look at him now. I’m not down-playing his talent but he made so many threats and didn’t do a thing. That’s embarrassing.

Maybe he talked to Chad Johnson and changed his mind.

What’s sad is that they just gave Urlacher (on the downside of his career) more money.
If they don’t want to give Devin more money, he should work hard at being the best WR he can be, then when the rookie contract runs out, sign elsewhere.

You might as well keep your $30,000 and show up on time then. He gained nothing…

What an ass. He should have least sat out a week after his “sit out the whole season” proclamation. Some athletes are “stoopid.”

Hester is a proud graduate of the Chad Johnson School of Holding out. Make a bunch of noise and cave in like a cheap suitcase, apologize to the fans and act like nothing happened.
How is he going to be a top NFL WR when the Bears don’t have a QB? He should have held out until the Bears sign a NFL QB, that would have been more helpful for his long range financial security.
