Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Packers quarterback Brett Favre plans to show up for training camp. In order to do so, he’ll first have to apply for reinstatement, via a letter that could be sent to Commissioner Roger Goodell as soon as Friday.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported earlier in the week that Goodell has advised the Packers that he will reinstate Favre upon request.
Schefter says that all indications are that Favre is returning with the intention of spending the season with the Packers.
But this could be a Jason Taylor-style attempt by the Packers and Favre to facilitate a trade by creating the impression that, if a suitable trade can’t be worked out, the Packers will keep him.
So our guess is that Favre and the team will do what they can to create the appearance that fences have mended, in the hopes that someone will offer up a package that the Packers deems to be suitable.
Still, will anyone buy it? Only eleven days ago, Favre said that he didn’t trust G.M. Ted Thompson, primarily because Thompson didn’t accept Favre’s advice on three occasion as to how Thompson should do his job.
Yeah, Favre on the Packers in 2008 will work out just fine. Eye roll. Cough. Fart. (Sorry, the cough made it slip out.)
Meanwhile, we’ve got a PFTV segment assessing the Favre situation. Though it could be a bit outdated in light of this latest development, you can at least watch it to see how right (or wrong) our comments might end up being.

Thats right. Force the Packers hand Brett.
Make them either pay you 12 million to sit on the bench, play you, or release you so you can pick your team.
BTW, even though Brett does not have a no-trade clause, all he has to do is inform every team that he doesnt like that he will not report or play for them. That way he can keep those teams from trading for him.
Stick it to Thompson Brett!

So much was made about Favre never filing his retirement paperwork. If he never filed it, why does he need to apply for reinstatement?

The Packers should hold an open competition for QB and let the chips fall where they may. Let offers come in for the loser and groom the kid just drafted as back up.

This a professional football team and these are professionals. Of course, if Favre shows up they could make it “work out just fine”. You think every person on every 53 person team loves each other and respects the front office?
And quite frankly, I don’t see how Favre would even have much to do with the GM, unless Thompson likes to stick his nose in meetings and practices.

Because he is on the reserved/retired list BBROPHY. What’s this I keep seeing about favre to TB for a 2010 first rounder? If they can’t trade him and he is reinstated. And on the team sept 8- he WILL be the starter. That is why they will get something done before then. TT loves AR. I saw it under a bridge in GB

Favre needs to start acting like a legendary QB and quit being a self-obsessed ego-maniac, who might have already destroyed his reputation beyond repair. The Packers should keep him on the roster as back-up, even if it costs them $12mil, just to show him that all spoiled QBs dont always get what they want.
For the future Brett, maybe you should take your retirement advice from a guy like Elway. He only said he was going to retire once, and guess what, he did. Imagine that, it is just that simple.
Take a report!

I don’t know how favre ruined his rep beyond repair. I can garauntee that IF he plays for the packers nobody will care about all this once he steps onto the field(untill next off season). All the people who bitch and complain about favre are just as annoying as the BS stroies that come out every 5 minutes about him. For all the ídiots who say make him a backup to teach him a lesson…TED THOMPSON WILL NOT GIVE AWAY MONEY LIKE THAT! Don’t be so retarted.

Another poem for GM Ted Thompson:
Woke up this morning
with a Crazy Situation.
Don’t want Brett Farve
on the Packers Plantation,
But try as I may,
and try as I might,
I just can’t seem
to win this fight!!!

If he’s smart, he’ll stay retired. He’s already compromised his legacy and further bickering/training camp drama will make it worse. The guy is 38….how many more years is a team going to get out of him anyway, and who’s gonna pay him that much? Brett, keep your ass at home on your tractor! GO EAGLES!!!

Is there any rule/poison pill the Pack can include in a potential trade to prevent the new team from trading Favre to Minnesota?
Say for instance, Miami wanted to parlay it’s newly acquired 2nd rounder from Washington into a 1st rounder from Minnesota.
Can GB prevent Miami (or any other team) from trading Favre to Minnesota?
Florio? NFL lawyers? Anyone know?

Dear Brett,
Thank you for the cicus sideshow these past few weeks. Without your media pandering and selfish behavior, i might’ve died of baseball boredom. Like a child on X-Mas morning, every day I have rushed out of bed and to the morning sports page to see what whacky new development has taken place with your little “jock soap opera”.
Only problem is, now my Cowboys are reporting to camp, and everyone elses teams are reporting to camp, and we just don’t have as much time to pander your ego anymore. I swear I thought I’d never see the day that T.O. would get better press than Favre, but it seems to be here.
It is with a heavy heart that I must say… GO AWAY!! LEAVE US ALONE!! STOP TAKING UP ROOM IN OUR BLOG!!
Sincerely,
DWARE

Most likely any trade would be a conditional pick. For instance a 3rd rounder for Favre. If he plays in more than 5 games, it becomes a 1st rounder. If he is traded or released it becomes two 1st rounders. (Just an example)
Now I’m sure someone could raise a fuss, but I would imagine that since the Vikings Poison Pill went through, I think this one would slide as well.

That’s my point cheeseheadken and jyernberg. Favre didn’t change his status but the Packers put him on this list without his paperwork being filed. A team shouldn’t be able to do that. It’s a work-around for roster exemptions. If the Packers knowing they are short a roster spot would have said around May “hey Brett, you have to get that retirement paperwork in” the dialogue would have started then and more likely to be finished by training camp. There’s no reason for this to be a training camp issue. He should either be required to be part of their roster or a free agent. This in between status isn’t good for the game and the whole process certainly can’t be good for Aaron Rodgers. What a mess he landed in. Would he have even been in invited to the ESPYs if this drama wasn’t unfolding daily?

If Thompson had listened to Favre and signed Randy Moss(Favre even was willing to use some of his salary to pay Moss) Packers would have not only beaten the Giants but the Super Bowl too. And Thompson knows it - that’s why he want Favre out of there. If those hicks in Wisconsin running this team had half a brain they’d fire Thompson immediately and name Favre starting QB AND also new GM of the team.

This has all the makings of a circus and as such, they should hand Favre the shovel to follow the elephants (Media) since this is so much of his own making.
As much of a sideshow as the next few weeks will be, TT will hold on to Favre and wait for another team’s #1 guy to go down before he unloads Favre for future draft picks.
And no, he will not ever play for the BIQUEENS, first, he is not gay enough and second, the BIQUEENS should be forced to stay with Jackson after they just spend the entire off season propping him up and then stabbing him in the back with the tampering activities. You got to love Childress, he is still wishing for the days of McNabb where he could get all the credit without having to do any real coaching.

Any one else think it was funny that Rodgers and Favre were both at the ESPY`s on Sunday?? I know Favre got an award but the only other Packer i saw was Rodgers. Is the only reason he was there so that JT could make fun of him??? I think there is something going on that we don`t know about Like it`s all just a big media scam to create way more interest in the off season. For people to watch more NLF network and visit web sites more when no a whole lot is really going on. I think the team knew he was gonna come back especially Rodgers.
