Various readers tell us that Anthony Gargano of WIP radio in Philly reported on Friday that the Eagles discussed internally the possibility of trading guard Shawn Andrews, who is an unexcused absence from training camp.
Though the team still isn’t calling the situation a holdout, we’re still struggling to understand why he’s not there.
Gargano also reported that Andrews will be fined for his absence. The CBA permits daily fines in excess of $15,000.
The concern apparently is that Andrews has at times been emotional, and the team is apparently getting frustrated.
Andrews was a first-round pick in 2004. He is signed through 2015.

He’s really really good. There would be a hell of a lot of interest. Maybe a bird trade. Eagles/Cardinals, Andrews/Boldin. Win-win for both teams.

They don’t call him “The Big Kid” due to his maturity level.

Gargano was implying the possibility was there for Andrews to be traded for Roy Williams. I agree with Gargano, I’d have dealt Andrews in a heartbeat. The Eagles are apparently a little more patient than me, lol.

That was the Lions WR, btw, not the Cowboys safety.

Gargano’s claims might be true. But he’s the same guy who got face time on ESPN while spewing a bunch of unverifiable stuff about the Marvin Harrison incident, which, as it turns out, a fraction of which was true.
Gargano needs to shut his mouth and go back to pretending he’s a Soprano, or a Good Fella.

Emotional? More like a fat cry-baby. Too bad we need him. I’m sure Arizona would love to have a guy like Andrews right now, and we’d love to have a guy like Anquan.

Andrews for Manning Jr and maybe a draft pick? The Bears could use a new guard.

Gargano also is saying the Eagles HAVE NOT talked to Andrews at all, and will be talking to his agent tomorrow. Former LB Garry Cobb is killing Andrews on WIP now, calling Andrews a big baby.

Please lord NO! he is a GREAT guard. not just good. I would love Roy Williams (the WR, not the S who can’t play football) but not for the big kid.

Andrews for Manning Jr? Instead of a “report as inappropriate” button, can there be a “report for idiocy” button?
Come on fella, how many CBs does one team need? And why would the eagles trade one of the best guards in the league for a potential bear cast off?

Remember last summer when he had the ankle problem and got really emotional about that?? He made everyone think it was a career threatening situation–I’m not sure if he missed a regular season game due to it. The Eagles were not happy having to put out those fires. Having said that–you just don’t give away a good guard.

if you sign a contract long term you better believe that your going to be getting paid less than the market when time passes, thats the exchange you take for taking security if you go down and get injured, he’s signed through 2015! they shouldn’t trade him, just attracts more players to whine about their contracts(see Terrell Owens) because they know the team will give in, pull the marvin lewis and just let him show up…eventually

the trades for andrews on here are utterly ridiculous. he is one of the very best offensive lineman in the game today. And you guys know how Andy loves his lineman. With McNabb finally healthy the las thing we need to do is to remove his greatest protecter.

So if the Eagles trade Andrews, he got a $10.5 million signing bonus to fulfill the final two years of his rookie contract and then cash in with a new team. Not a bad deal for him. It would suck for the Eagles because they would have shelled out $10.5 million for nothing. They could have just let him complete his rookie contract, franchise him and trade him and would have saved the money.

He’s probably PO’d that Tre/William Thomas or Runyan won’t retire so he can start making Tackle money. He IS our best lineman, but a move for either of those WRs whould be a big upgrade to the offense.
As for Gargano, he’s the best host on WIP - way better than the morning guys and a ton better than Eskin. Too bad for him he looks like Fred Flinstone on TV, or he’d have a big career in front of him on ESPN or NFLN.

As many other Bear fans have posted our team sure would like to add a first pick quality guard if at all possible. It would be nice to know what the salary cap ramifications are for a trade of Andrews to the Bears. However as I understand it the Bears are about 1-2MM under the cap and probably will use that to give Hester a new contract. If Andrews salary was front loaded maybe a deal can be done especially if the Bears can lose Ricky Manning Jr.’s salary without much of a cap hit. Another are the Bears are thick at is LB so if the Eagles need help there maybe a deal is possible. For example Jamal Williams was ready to Briggs place and he apparently is NFL starter ready for WLB.

I’d want a great player + a good pick for Andrews. We’re in a division that’s loaded with pass rushers and he’s our best O-lineman (though he does need to work on his pass blocking). He’s also versatile enough to move to tackle…he’s got great feet. Who cares if he’s moody…. 80% of the NFL is moody. You’ve got the self-medicating players, players who want a new contract before the ink dries on their old contract, wife-beaters, gun-toaters….

Andrews emotional? Try manic. This guy is a nut job, i.e. “my career is over” revelation when his injured foot was housed in a boot.
