Various readers tell us that Anthony Gargano of WIP radio in Philly reported on Friday that the Eagles discussed internally the possibility of trading guard Shawn Andrews, who is an unexcused absence from training camp.
Though the team still isn’t calling the situation a holdout, we’re still struggling to understand why he’s not there.
Gargano also reported that Andrews will be fined for his absence. The CBA permits daily fines in excess of $15,000.
The concern apparently is that Andrews has at times been emotional, and the team is apparently getting frustrated.
Andrews was a first-round pick in 2004. He is signed through 2015.

Colts are trading Peyton manning too. I heard it on loudmouth radio host in any city in America trying to boost his advertising dollars. STFU and give me a break with these baseless rumors.

Max Jean-Giles could step right in…I like Shawn, but if a #1 wideout is available, the Eagles could do without him.

I just want to know when are the Eagles finally going to say “F— it”, and deal one of these contract-problem guys.

To me the more interesting story would be how this relates to Stacy Andrews not signing a long term deal with the Bengals. It’s been rumoured that Stacy wanted to work his way out of Cincinnati so he could go to Philly and play with his brother.
Now I’m starting to wonder if they are making a play to be playing on a team of their own choosing in 2009. Maybe a play to move to Dallas? Seems like their ties to Arkansas would make that the logical play here with Jerry Jones having played and graduated from Arkansas it stands to reason he’s developed some kind of relationship with Shawn.
Anyone think Shawn has an Eagle paid cell phone he’s been using?

Gargano stumbled through a bunch of BS and never revealed jack. He has no source. As for GCobb, the guy is a joke. He (actually, it wasn’t even him, it was one of his “interns”) hit on the Asante Samuel deal. He’s known about as much as I do since then. Larry Fitzgerald, anyone?

Before anyone gets too excited, I was listening to Glen & Cuz and they made it very clear that the Eagles impetuously discussed trading Andrews out of frustration but quickly put those thoughts aside. They were also quite clear that trading Andrews for Roy Williams was just conjecture on their part and not something that was, is or will be discussed between the Eagles and Lions. The Eagles expect Andrews to report, eventually. They plan to talk to his agent about the issue on Saturday.
By the way, I love Andrews as a player but I’d trade him for a top receiver in a second. I’d be much happier with Roy Williams and Max Jean-Gilles then Shawn Andrews and Reggie Brown. I can’t believe the Lions would do that.

Actually Gargano had absolutely nothing to back this up with. The extent of his story was they MIGHT consider trading him sometime in the future. He knows absolutely nothing. Its only been one day people.

Cipher - Remember that Andy got a sandwich and a hug from FredEx before they drafted him over Chad Johnson and Reggie Wayne. Apparently sandwiches mean a lot in this organization.

Keep dreaming, Bears fans. a) You’ve got nothing we need, and b) Andy loves his O-line as much as he loves his cheeseburgers. Andrews isn’t going anywhere.

First off who would we replace Andrews with this season? Max Jean-Gilles? Who knows what he can do?
Second why are you guys getting all over Gargano? The mid day show is the best thing on 610.

As a Cowboys fan, I could not be happier.
The Philthy Eagles have a long history of not taking care of their own and this is just another case of it. Horrible management.
If you get rid of this immense talent, who’s going to protect the Mormon QB?

Andrews/Boldin…Andrews/Roy Williams (the WR) are stupid trades….the Eagles should def do it in a heart beat…but it’s a loss for the lions and the Cards.
You don’t trade an OL for a premier WR, unless its Hutch or throwback Larry Allen.

The Eagles have a great offensive line coach so dealing Andrews to Arizona for Boldin would be a win/win situation. Who would takes Andrews spot? Jean-Gilles? Suitable replacement.

Hey Tex Big, you are an idiot. McNabb is not a Mormon, Andy Reid is. So before you try to be funny, know what you’re talking about. And, at least our management doesn’t sign one turd after another. For Pete’s sake, they have a CB they have to tail 24/7 to make sure he stays out of trouble. Now that’s hysterical.

You know Andy’s real sour on Shawn Andrews if his little suck-up, sock puppet Eskin is talking bad about Andrews. Eskin would never be down on an Eagles player unless Andy gave Eskin permission to be.

“You don’t trade an OL for a premier WR, unless its Hutch or throwback Larry Allen.”
Wrong on so many levels, first of all if Andrews isn’t as good as hutchenson he’s damn close… Secondly a top flight lineman is worth at least as much as a premier wide out, probably more…
Dumb fans think the skill positions (RB, WR) are the most valuable because their contributions are exciting and easily seen without studying film but those are some of the most fungible positions on the field… Line play goes way farther in determining the outcome of each game. Coaches and GM’s know that that’s why those guys average way higher salaries…
