It was reported earlier today that the New York Jets have received permission to talk directly with Packers quarterback Brett Favre regarding a trade.
FOX’s Jay Glazer reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have also received such permission.
Prior reports indicated only that the Bucs were interested in a trade, not that the Bucs were allowed to talk to the veteran quarterback.
So Favre has full permission to speak with both teams, and both teams have permission to speak with Favre. Presumably, the calls won’t be made on a Packers-issued cell phone.

Brett always said it wasn’t about the records, but coming back in this capacity makes one think otherwise.

The Bucs are his best bet. He would be wise to sit down and speak with them. Hopefully this whole mess can be put behind the Packers and we can move forward with Rodgers, for better or worse. Then the Bucs can deal with his annual drama of will I or won’t I retire. I am tired, I don’t think I can do this another year, BLAH…Blah…Blah… I am fed up with this annual BS. Let some other team deal with the Diva. I wish him nothing but the best, except on 9/28/08 when we can pick off one of his wounded ducks.

I think Brett only wants to play for the Packers. The ESPN reports have implied that Brett isn’t ready to talk to the Jets…I don’t know about the Bucs.

How is this coming back for the records? He’s broken pretty much all of them. He’s just a really good player who doesn’t know when its time to hang up the cleats.

A trade with the Jets would make sense for the Packers, and not just because its an AFC team. Trade Favre for Pennington and 2nd or 3rd rounder. NYJ trading Pennington would clear up some needed cap space for Favre, and the Packers would have an experienced QB to fill in for a game or two if Rodgers goes down and Brohm isn’t ready. I know, Pennington is far from great, but as a Packer fan I’d rather see him for a game or two early in the season than Brohm.

Who cares anymore what Brett does? This guy has a GM who
does a great job for the Greenbay Packers. Thompson is
responsible for the Coach that helped Favre, the receiver
Jennings who helped Favre, the defense and the protection
that the QB got. So what does Favre do; he retires, then
goes on national TV to bad mouth the guy who was most
responsible for providing the support that helped him
have an all pro year. What Brett Favre needs is medication
and some good therapy. Brett should take his wife to the
south of France for a month and just shut up!

I’m suprised that there is so much venom coming from Packer fans on Favre changing his mind. I’m sure it pisses off Rodgers, but who do you think gives them a better chance to go to the Big Game? I mean you guys were one game away from going last year. There were no other major losses from their roster. Why wouldn’t you want him back for another year? I understand going through the drama every year about whether he will retire or not, but isn’t it worth it to be a true contender??

How do you guys who are saying he has all the records not understanding that he can still increase his totals. All records get broken, so if he doesn’t set the bar as high as he can he won’t get to enjoy them long. How many records does Marino hold now?

Favre doesn’t even hold the record for most QB SB wins for the Packers. Favre read Dr. Z’s prediction the Vikings would win the SB and wanted to climb on that gravy train–whoops–that stripper gravy boat.
Free all Packer fans who know Bart Starr was and is the greatest GB quarterback. Trade Favre to the Detroit Shock so he and Nancy Lieberman can compare menopause medications.

Favre isn’t going to the Jets. They are not contenders, even with Favre. Tampa would likely be the highest bidder for Favre, but the Vikings and Bears could still be trade possibilities. I’m a longtime Packer and Favre fan but I would trade Favre to either team for the right draft picks. Favre is still going to throw the ball up for grabs, even with a new team. He would probably throw a bunch of picks if he ever plays against the Packers. Last year in Dallas, he threw some brutal interceptions because he has trying to win the game on one throw. The same thing would happen this year if he plays against the Packers.
For those Aaron Rodgers haters out there: Did you ever consider that the Packers might have gone to the Super Bowl if Rodgers had played that playoff game against the Giants? Favre played that game like an old man, especially in the second half. He forced a throw to Donald Driver in overtime that ended the Packers season. If Rodgers had played, maybe they win that game.

Griese (maybe Simms) and 09 3rd round pick for Farve. Then Garcia to Vikings or Bears for 3rd or 4th in 09. ..and Simms to Dallas for a 4th in 09 or ‘10. Leaves us with Farve for two years with McCown as back-up and Josh Johnson as next gruden project. I think with another year of seasoning McCown will be ready to step in and do very well. Sometime it pays to collect QB’s !!!
Farve & Super Bowl… WOO HOO !!!
