As Packers General Manager Ted Thompson awkwardly attempts to keep the fans happy while keeping the franchise’s most popular player away, he had a rough go of it today at the team’s shareholders’ meeting.
Multiple reports indicate that the majority of the thousands of shareholders who showed up today in Green Bay were anti-Thompson and pro-Brett Favre.
The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that Thompson was greeted by a number of fans shouting, “Bring Brett back.” And a PFT reader who attended the meeting estimated that three-fourths of those in attendance were booing Thompson.
For his part, Thompson tried to stay positive and look forward, not backward.
“We are family here, but family sometime disagree. But we’ll always be family,” he said. ” We’re very excited about this team coming forward.”

hey moonbeam… the Pack go there because Farve helped them be 13-3
one mistake or one great catch changes the game that is why we are fans of the game, ie, Tyree’s awesome catch over Harrison to beat the Patsies!!! I’m just stating that as all new starting QB’s in the leauge that they’ll need 2 years to get it together & Green Bay has a winner almost there now with Favre!!!

Can we please knock off the “Favre’s interception is the reason they didn’t go to the Super Bowl” talk, as if he did nothing but detract from the team’s season? While it’s true that the season ended with a really, really bad mistake by Favre, he did so much over the course of that season that got the Packers in a position to play in the NFC title game. Besides, how can you act as if that one play truly defined that whole game? I would argue that the Packers had ample opportunities to take an insurmountable lead throughout the game and could very well have beaten the Giants. The TEAM’s mistakes (with the most timely and memorable being Favre’s interception) cost the Packers that game. If the Packers players as a group (Favre included) perform better earlier in the game, maybe they don’t go to overtime at all. The best teams don’t let it come down to the wire. The best teams get the lead and keep the lead.
I hate it when people try to pin a loss on one player/one play at the end of the game. As a Bears fan, I’ve seen Rex Grossman make 489 mistakes per game, but few of them were as timely or prominent as Favre’s NFC title game interception. That causes us to talk about it as if Favre did nothing but detract from his team’s season. Which one would you rather have under center? As I’m watching the “epic” quarterback battle between Orton and Grossman, I’d take Favre and his 1 most-prominent interception, 4,000+ yards, and 28 TDs any day. (I’d tell him to bring a couple of receivers with him…)

killer fins fan
let’s go to the facts, mike mccarthy changed bret favre’s
approach to the game of football.from there they built the
team around him.it takes eleven people to push everything
accross the goal line, favre is just 9% of the effort.
the ten other players must be good (dominate)also.

Comment:
Bob S., how the hell does how much money Thompson made as a player have anything to do with him being a quality GM?
——–
What I meant is Thompson was only hired in the first place because he was cheap and because he is willing to follow whatever orders the board gives him. And for that matter that’s also why they hired an inexperienced head coach as well. And why the team in recent years refused to sign top name or big name free agents. If Favre is out of there $12 million a year is slashed frm their expenses - and even you know the Packers won’t spend a dollar of this savings on getting other players.

Boob S.,
You have absolutely no clue. Thompson came HIGHLY recommended from Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgren, but what would they know? Thompson has clearly proven he is one of the best GM’s in the NFL with the roster he has assembled.
McCarthy has clearly proven tremendously that he is one of the best coaches in the NFL. Ask Vikings’ fans who they would rather have, Brad Childress or McCarthy. The answer is easy if you read the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Minneapolis Star Tribune. The guy Favre wanted? Well, I guess no one else wanted Marriucci either since he’s, you know, sitting in a studio with all of the other guys no one wants.
Woodson getting $10 million in the first year of his contract, not in a signing bonus that can be prorated but salary, straight up that counted $10 million against the cap last season. What a tight ass Thompson is.
Ryan Pickett gets a 4 year, $14 million deal. Thomspon’s still a tight ass.
McCarthy getting $5 million per year, that sure is stingy.
Donald Driver’s new deal, Barnett’s new deal, Al Harris getting an extension, Donald Lee, Brady Poppinga, soon Ryan Grant. Etc, etc, etc.
The Packers have no problem paying Favre’s $12 million salary. Favre’s the one with the problem that he doesn’t want to compete for the starting job. Great career Favre, you created this mess and the team and the sensible Packers’ fans and the rest of the country see the real deal.

Odd. The reports I’ve heard were that Thompson was supported. The few that shouted out must have been the 20 people or so who have shown up to picket in favor of Favre

@SportsAllstar_24
Wow are you just missing the point on a few things.
1) Favre didn’t put the Packers on the map Ron Wolf did. Favre wasn’t even the biggest move he made IMO. It might be 1A, but hiring Holmgren was very key and under the wrong guy Favre may not have become the QB he did. Holmgren had the system and knowledge to turn him into the QB he become. Heck Reggie White could even be in play, for making it okay to play in Green Bay and showing the world that Green Bay could play the FA game.
2. Actually yes Thompson did help with the success of the Packers before he become the GM. Read his bio and you will see he was with the Packers before he went to Seattle and he was one of the guys that MH took with him Seattle. I wonder why? For Bob S. (are you two the same) Thompson was key in building the Seattle Super Bowl team, so the guy knows a bit about building a team.
3. It is well know that Thompson has been trying to get rid of him in NFL circles? Are you part of these circles, what articles can point me to. Further more there is a ton of press out there that speaks otherwise even from Favre himself. When Thompson first took over, he went down there and help him make the decision to come back. Same again when McCarthy was hired. #3 is so off-based I almost feel like I am wasting my time, because if you truly believe this and the NFL Circle part you are never going to see the truth.
4. The Packers started this. Yeah okay. Yes it was the Packers and not Bus Cook or Favre’s mother or Favre’s brother that leaked it. He wanted to come back, he got in touch with the Packers and this last time they told him we have moved on. Then the leaks started. Plus it was Favre himself that hinted to this. The interview on Letterman for example. Don’t think that because Favre isn’t talking that things are not getting leaked to the press on his behalf.
You truly are a lost soul and I fee sorry for you.

No I am not those other people who also think Thompson and those directing him are to blame for the entire situation. Favre was repeatly called time and again way back in March to make up his mind whether to retire or not as they would have to “go another direction.” They pressured and rushed, the man wh did so much for this team that was totally useless for close to 20 years before Favre got there. What class Thompson has!

moonbeam: the fact I’m stating is that Favre is available now with the same scheme that worked last year, true that have to cater to a different style on QB with Rogers which I don’t think will be as productive as last year!!! I hope the Pack step it up for the kid’s sake but think they should stay with the proven winner in Brett!!!
