Packers president Mark Murphy announced moments ago at a press conference held in conjunction with the team’s annual shareholders meeting that plans to retire Brett Favre’s jersey are now on hold.
Earlier this year, the team had announced that Favre’s No. 4 would be retired on the first game of the regular season, on the evening of September 8 against the Vikings.
This development could mean several things. Maybe the Packers now think Favre will be playing for them on September 8. Or maybe he’ll be playing elsewhere, and they now want to wait for him to finish his career. Or maybe he’ll be wearing a white-and-purple jersey during said September 8 game.
Or maybe the Packers are just pissed off at him for creating such a mess and they’re going to wait a few years before setting aside his number. It’s not like they’re going to issue it to someone else in the interim.

Changing their mind after it was already announced. How pathetic is that?

What a mess…ultimately I think this falls on the GM. Unless of course the Packer’s PR Department falls under Brett Favre. Hail!

The real question is “How pathetic is Farve for allowing it to get to this?”
Fravegate continues.

I think rather it is Brett being pissed off at them and not showing up for them treating him like dirt.

not as pathetic as if they still had it planned and he was playing for another team.
They had to cancel this one ASAP. Today is about 2 weeks late of ASAP, but its better than in mid August.

omegalh, what are they supposed to do? Retire his jersey when he might be still playing for them or even for someone else? Boy that would be awkward if they retired his number but Brett can’t be there because he is playing for the Buccaneers. The Packers are doing the right thing here by postponing it until everything is settled once and for all.

Omegalh- “Changing their mind after it was already announced. How pathetic is that?”
About as pathetic as crying in your retirement speech, then CHANGING YOUR MIND and crying about how unfair your being treated. As far as the GB organization goes, it’s par for the course.

I’m guessing it’s on hold because no one knows if Favre is going to be playing this year, or, if so, where he’s going to be playing. Isn’t that kind of obvious?

Those who “blame” Favre for all of this are F%$king morons. If anyone is to blame…and I say if… it’s the Packer organization(TT) and the media and blogs like this for oversaturating the airwaves and internet with this.
I really miss old school mentality(sad that it’s old school)….where what you’ve done for an organization…a community…a sport.. is respected and honored. We’ve become soooo selfish as a society. All we care about is what’s goin on now and what we can take from any given situation..not what we can give. Brett has given… and now he’s asking for some respect…and he’s not getting any. He made a mistake retiring… which of you hasn’t made a mistake? He wants to play and he still can…and all he’s gotten is resistence. It’s completely ridiculous. Those who bash him are ridiculous! I try to chalk it up to spoiled little brats on the internet, but I’m beginning to realize that not everyone on here is adolescant… just self-centered adults who think it’s okay to forget about what someone did for you yesterday….. it’s about who can I take form today.

Trust me, bearsfan34, the Vikings aren’t losing any sleep over the Favre mess. TT has tried to get us involved the Vikes involved as a distraction, but nothing can detract the Vikings attention from working their way to Super Bowl XLIII.
