A league source tells us that there are rumblings that Eagles guard Shawn Andrews might not show up for training camp, apparently due to displeasure with his contract.
Andrews is another one of the young Eagles players who signed an early-career contract that extends into the next decade. In Andrews’ case, he’s signed through 2015.
The first-round pick in the 2004 draft is due to earn a base salary of $2.98 million in 2008. And if he thinks that’s too low, he’ll be really pissed off in 2009, when his base salary drops to $750,000.
If he doesn’t report, he’ll be subject to fines of more than $15,000 per day, and he could be required to pay back a portion of the bonus money.

The Eagles FO is good at acquiring talent,but once they feel like they’ve given you a good deal,they’re impossible to convince otherwise. just ask TO.
being a skins fan I hope he holds out. Andrews is their best O-lineman,and without him philly’s O-line will become horrible.They aren’t even that great of a pass blocking group to begin with,and the 3 other teams in the NFC east are loaded with pass rushers.

does anybody know what his bonus was when he signed his deal? He’s obviously got more than 2.98 million considering that.
Either way, this guy doesn’t have a case until about 2011 , at the earliest. If he is determined to hold out, this one could get ugly.

Don’t mention TO. He was one year into a deal. If one of your players tried to pull the same shit you’d feel the exact same way. They were willing to renegotiate with him but at the end of the season but his new agent who wasn’t getting any money from his current deal wanted it done then. He then threw the guy who got him that deal and who he was reliant on to get him the ball under the bus. “I’m not the one who got tired in the Superbowl” Yeah jackass because you hardly played in the Super Bowl while Donovan played every offensive down and was getting hit all the time because his center sucked while every time you touched the ball you ran out of bounds. He also managed to score a couple of touchdowns while you didn’t.
They’re willing to deal with Westbrook. They’re unwilling to deal with Lito by all accounts because he’s been injured. Andrews? I don’t know.
What these players got to take into account instead of just looking at this years salary is how much money they got up front that they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. Floyd Reese on NFL Live the other day said he wouldn’t renegotiate with players before the last year of the deal especially if he gave them good money up front. He said something to the effect of getting 5 years out of a 7 year deal or 3 years out of a 5 year deal at least.
If it was me I would tell them give me back that signing bonus and then we’ll give you a new deal and see how that changes their perspective.

I’m tired of people pissing on the Eagles for being extremely intelligent when it comes to signing young talent. They were taking a calculated risk when they threw Andrews the contract he has now. What if he had been a complete dud and was making $3 million this season? I bet you the Eagles wouldn’t be asking for him to re-structure his contract. These players sign contracts. They are to oblige by them. It’s ridiculous. In all three cases in which Eagles players are unhappy with their contracts (Sheppard, Westbrook, Andrews) the team was smart enough to get them locked up to contracts that put money in the players’ pockets immediately when they weren’t worth that much and at the same time would help the Eagles out later in the deal IF they reached elite status. Keep in mind Shawn Andrews is one of my favorite players on the Eagles, but he is out of line in this one. We have plenty of depth at RG so let him sit out.

Andrews rookie deal was up after the 2008 season if he voided the final year of his rookie contract,however in june 2006 he signed a 7 year 40(5.7 mil a year) million dollar extension to his rookie deal. Andrews was said to have gotten 10-12 million bonuses
On the open market now a guy of his ability would pull in 9mil a year+ easily,and based off of alan faneca getting 5 years/40 million(8 mil a year) with 21 million of that guaranteed.
Andrews is a better guard than Faneca right now,and Andrews has youth on his side as well.Faneca signed that deal as a 31 year old. Andrews is 25.

Andrews is out of his mind! Does he realize that when he signed a seven year extension two years ago he was signed through 2007 and this is the first year of his contract extension? So he is sitting out and demanding more money after the Eagles apparently gave him a $10.5 million signing bonus for apparently nothing (well to honor the final two years of his rookie deal).
I don’t usually care about the Eagles, but if I was them I would tell him to suck it up and play or sit out and then try to go after him for his bonus too. This is nothing but extortion after Andrews got paid eight figures for a deal that he hasn’t played a single day of. Screw him.

gibsonplyer i couldnt agree more. You know he didnt blindly sign the contract back then, right? They obviously said “look, this is how your base salaries play out given this huge signing bonus were gonna give you. In 09′ its gonna drop to 750,000, but thats only because were prorating it and giving you alot of money up front. Are you sure you want to sign?”….his response was undoubtedly yes, yes. I’m a team player, blah blah blah. I understand im getting paid this money more upfront, and im not gonna be a problem in 09′.
Now fast forward to 08′…..i never said anything about not being a problem in 08′..brewahahahaha.
Dont these guys realize it’s not JUST about them. I heard and respected the crap out of something i heard Darnell Dockett from the cards say yesterday. When asked why he was showing up while upset with his current deal, he responded by saying “its not just about me, theres 80 guys out there that depend on him being there and doing his part for the team.” I really hope him and Westbrook show up, i just dont thin the fans can take it anymore. Most people want to win so badly that any type of holdout/distraction will be there public crucifixion. These guys DO NOT GET TRICKED INTO SIGNING CONTRACTS. THEY ARE LAID OUT FOR THEM, AND THEY SIGN THEM ON THEIR OWN FREE WILL. So the players are the ones breaking their words, and saying i dont care what i said two years ago, im a baby and i want MORE NOW!!!

The only reason all of the Eagles players are whining is because they gave the “outsider” Asante Samuel a huge contract. Now everyone wants their deals restructed. The only one who deserves a new deal is Westbrook. In some respects, Andrews and Sheppard are more injury prone than McNabb. They should shut up and play.

so this is the year that giving players short money on long contracts while they’re too young and stupid to know better is finally going to catch up with the front office. it was only a matter of time.
i’m not the only one who thinks the decision makers get more satisfaction from getting players locked up to cap-favorable contracts than they do from winning.
for the love of god, andrews and westbrook are your best players on the team. if you can’t take care of them, how do you expect to win anything. good luck getting bunkley or anyone else to sign an extention.

He’s probably comparing himself to a guy like Faneca and realizing he deserves more money. Instead of being pissed off at the organization, he should be mad at himself for being too stupid to realize, and his agent for not telling him, that when you sign a second deal before reaching the free agent market, you probably won’t make as much as a guy who had two teams in a bidding war over him. Andrews should wait until the Eagles move him to tackle to renegotiate a deal. The market value will be higher and he’ll have better leverage, especially if they move him to the left side.

Any other eagles fans think it’s odd that for the last 3 days the eagles website has been flooded with blogs and updates and stories from every angle, but on this day, as of 8:45 AM(the last blog entry)there has been nothing! Not one word about anyone….hmmmmmm, it makes me wonder whats going on. Im about to drive over to the practice fields and see if anyone is showing up yet. Ill be back on with a REAL UPDATE from someone thats really out here. Not from out friend TOM M penning stories about us calling the Pack for Favre:(

WhoDeyThinkGonnaBeatDemBengals hit the nail on the head. His brother Stacy is a year and a half younger, has only started 17 games for the Bengals, but will make $7.455 million this season. Although he’s listed as the starter at Right Tackle on the Bengals initial depth chart, I’d be surprised if he even starts without someone else being injured.
Do you think Stacy is breaking some balls? Maybe Shawn should fire his agent and hire Stacy’s?

So what happens if he gets a new deal now, gets moved to tackle, and suddenly decides he deserves even more money?
He signed this contract, that’s his signature on it, he did it of his own volition. You don’t sign an extension, take your 10 million of it up front, know the paramaters of it that will have you here for another seven years, and then decide it’s time for a bigger contract before you even played one snap on it. That’s total BS. The Eagles are very willing to negotiate with Westbrook, as they are with Lito. However, there’s no reason to do this. Is Andrews possibly the best guard in the league? Yes. Does he “deserve” more money? Possibly. Did he sign that contract? Yes. Should the Eagles renegotiate? No.
Let him sit it out. He’s a huge piece of the team, and not having him would hurt, but I do think we can get by. They could move Max Jean-Gilles, a big kid who is built very similar to Andrews and is a monster run blocker, over to RG from LG, leaving Todd Herremans at LG where he’s been for the last two years. After one month he’ll be out 1/6 of his base salary for this year due to fines. Wait until they try (successfully) to recoup his signing bonus after that, as they did with TO. Maybe he’ll change his tune.
I’m not very hardline on players with things like this, but if he sits out, he’s straight up being a baby. Maybe he should spend his money wiser, rather than blow out his signing bonus and decide he needs more money before even honoring one snap of the seven year deal he signed.

Probably in the top three most important players on the team -
With that said - he has no case - players (and their agents) always seem to forget about their upfront money -
Andrews appears to be a fickle guy (what was up with the whole “my career might be over deal from last summer???), but he can sit all he wants, he’s locked up until 2015 -
Play 2 more seasons (including a $750,000 base season next year) injury free at a pro bowl level and you’ll get paid (again) -
These guys are ridiculous, and you have to wonder how much of this is the agent in the ear….

I highly doubt the Eagles players are asking for more money because of what they paid Asante. Asante took the risk of getting injured and ending his days of playing ball because the reward for him on the FA market was huge. Andrews signed the deal early because he felt the guarntee made him more comfortable than taking the same risk Asante did.
Westbrook was offered more money by the Eagles and the amount was more than fair but hes deciding to be a nut job about it. This is called negotiating not “Give me what I want when I want it”.I dont agree with players getting new deals so early into their current contract but 36 really does deserve more money. He just needs to realize a good deal when he sees it.
