The New England Patriots have opened training camp with a whopping 12 players on the physically unable to perform list.
The dozen players who can’t yet play are: DL Jarvis Green, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, S Rodney Harrison, DB Ellis Hobbs, T Nick Kaczur, G Stephen Neal, T Oliver Ross, LB Bo Ruud, LB Mike Vrabel, WR Wes Welker, C Ryan Wendell, and DL Mike Wright.
Also, Tom Brady is probable for practice with a shoulder injury.

Florio…A question. Does players on the PUP list count against the 80-man roster limitation?

Is this a way to circumvent the roster cap of 80 players? Sounds like it. Do PUP guys count towards that?

Why is Kaczur on the PUP list?
Oh wait, I guess he is still going through DETOX from all the OXYContin pills.
Or maybe he hasnt finished his “snitching” duties for the government yet.
I heard the Patriots have hired several new employees and have taken them to camp with the team. They include 3 Criminal Defense attorneys, 2 drug dependacy counselors, a representative from the Witness protection program, 2 DEA agents, 3 U.S. Marshalls (for Kaczurs safety) and a rules bookologist ( to interpet the rules for Belichek)

Yup, that’s what happens when you play a different type of schedule than the rest of the NFL teams. New England’s season is always an extended version, and that will take it’s toll.
If you’re a N.E. fan, you have nothing to worry about, though. BB will put them on pace for a 19 or 20 game season. Just like today, at practice, Brady hardly threw the ball. BB has to treat him like a pitcher. Patients and pacing. Patients and pacing.

does putting players on the PUP list exempt them from counting against the 80-man limit? If so, this would be a pretty blatant attempt to circumvent the rule. Just put all the guys not competing for a spot on the PUP list while you evaluate other players…

Green-Ellis, Ruud and Wendell are rookies, so no biggie (except that a lot of folks were thinking that Ruud might contribute right away).
Hobbs, Neal, Ross and Wright have been rehabbing from previous injuries, so no real surprises there, though Hobbs and Neal being out is certainly gonna detract (Ross and Wright are backups).
The good news is that TEs Watson and Thomas are NOT on the PUP list, implying that they’re fully recovered.
No idea what’s up with Kaczur. Keeping him off the active roster pending a possible coming league suspension is not a bad idea, though.
But, Harrison, Vrabel, Welker and Jarvis Green? Ouch! That’s gonna seriously hurt if they’re still on the PUP for the first six weeks. They have until, what, August 26 (75-man cut down date) to be reactivated?
IIRC, that brings the Pats Active Roster count down to 67 at the start of camp, well below the 80 allowed. So, do they intend to bring in a bunch of other guys for tryouts? Does that even make sense?

That’s funny. The Giants played a longer schedule than the Pats did, and I don’t see a laundry list of players on the PUP for NY. Maybe the Patriots are just soft.

Cheating is as cheating does. The Pats are stashing players on the PUP.After thinking about the idiots that post,I don’t want to waste my time responding. By the way East 96th, next time you go to P King, walk another block south to 85th street make a right ,say hello to the statue of the greatest doorman in NYC,oh I forgot I pretend to have a residence in NYC.PS, I love you too Manny who I know reads this site. By the way Manhattan is not a great place to raise a 7 year old.Long Island offers alot of options, but if you can’t afford LI in the immortal words of Archie Bunker try New Jersey.I have no problem with Giants fans,BB & TC are the best of friends. Its all the same coaching tree. You don’t see Browns fans banging the cheating drum, they know that Romeo & Bill are connected at the hip.If anyone thinks that coaching tree know or do the same thought process than enjoy your fantasy. To the rest, I love the 1’s . Its great being a fan of the best team in the NFL in the best region of the USA . PS I wear my Patriots colors proudly in New York.Brady/Moss 08

so, they shouldn’t be able to evaluate as many players as possible? the 80 man limit is just league b.s. anyway. but i wouldn’t expect many of y’all to understand.
as far as “rules” go: The PUP list is a far less binding option than injured reserve, which knocks a player out for the entire season. Once players are designated as PUP list, they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, he can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list if they start training camp on the active roster.

Coleslaw, I am watching NFLN & it looks like there is about 15 fans watching the Jests first practice. How does it feel to root for a team that most people in NY consider 2nd class citizens? The Jets have been a joke since Joe Willie was traded to the Rams.Bottom feeder team along with bottom feeder fans like you who continually can’t make a decent post about your team, just continue to sling your BS.No wonder BB did not want to be a part of the joke named the Jets.I am willing to bet that you are under 30 that goes along with your 10 year old maturity. Your next post will verify it.Bring it on!
