A road near Ralph Wilson Stadium will be named for Tim Russert, as a tribute to the late Meet the Press host’s love for the Bills.
President Bush signed a law designating a stretch of Route 20A in Orchard Park, New York, as Timothy J. Russert Highway.
The legislation to re-name the road was introduced by New York Senators Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer.
“Throughout his years in Washington he remained true to his roots, and more often than not on Sunday mornings during the football season he proclaimed his love for the Bills to a national audience as he signed off of Meet the Press,” Clinton said in a statement. “When people drive through what will be the Timothy J. Russert Highway, I hope they are reminded of the man who always cheered on his hometown team.”

In other news the Senate stalemated on a compressive energy policy, the budget, and the War in Iraq. However they did manage to pass a statement that Pussy Cats are pretty… In protest dog lovers are currently organizing a million paw march.

He lived in Nantucket with Jack Welch. If he were not an Irish Catholic, no such luck would have been bestowed upon him.

It’s a nice honor for a diehard fan and advocate for the city of Buffalo (yes, they do exist). The honor has nothing to do with his Irish heritage. He was one of the best political analysts/journalists the past 20 years. For all of those on this site that hate Olbermann or Limbaugh or O’Reilly or Matthews, Russert was the most objective and fair political host on television.

It’s an honor only if you think a media personality should be given some token of distinction for being a pushover who failed to take politicos such as Bush and Cheney to task for their crimes and corruption, instead lobbing them soft questions that they could knock out of the park.
