If the Internet has taught us one thing, it’s that humans love lists in ranked order. And so it’s no surprise that, on the eve of training camps — the last time of the year every single fanbase has championship hopes (realistic or not) — Michael Silver comes along to remind some of us that, no, your team is rotten at the top and hope is a fruitless venture.
That’s right, it’s Part I of his annual Owner Rankings, #17-32
Silver’s pick for the worst owner in the league? Jacksonville’s Wayne Weaver. He bases the distinction on Weaver’s gross overestimate of the potential growth of Jacksonville’s economy, his refusal to admit that the team’s for sale despite knowledge to the contrary, and his indifference to anything but his own bottom line. And sure, that’s a pretty bad rap sheet, but worst owner in the league?
What about Tom Benson? All smiles, handshakes, and puppy dogs aside, let’s not forget that if it weren’t for Paul Tagliabue, Benson would have ripped the Saints from New Orleans right after Hurricane Katrina. The smiles he displays now are plastic, because his hand was forced.
Or what about William Clay Ford, who has let his team turn into such a joke that Lions fans are a beaten mass of resignation to the point that most wouldn’t even care if the team was sold and moved because of the prospect of lower blood pressure? Or Al Davis, for so, so, so many things?
At least Jaguars fans have had a successful franchise to follow. And they’ll probably continue to have one. They just might have to move to L.A. to keep up with it.

The lowest Snyder’s been on his list is 5. He’s been doing this list since 06.
The Jags record over last 3 seasons 31-17
Skins record over same time 24-24
Jags well under salary cap. Skins had to have a new CBA rushed that gave players 60% of the revenue just so they could make it under the cap.
Snyder’s big spending spree year in 2000 ( signed Bruce Smith Deion Sanders Jeff George and others getting up to a 100 million dollar payroll) the Skins went 8-8 and miss the playoffs.
Weaver’s big spending year in 99 the Jags go 14-2 and make the AFC championship game.
Which owner would you rather have? The one who lets the people who know the game make the decisions -or- the one who wants to run his franchise like a fantasy football team?

MIKE BROWN
NO CONTEST
Look, most NFL owners have their hands in other businesses; those other businesses being the source of their immense wealth which allows them to buy a football team. Hence, these owners operate their football teams as their personal fantasy teams, not overly concerned about whether the team makes money (or how much it makes) because they will more than make up for whatever they are leaving on the table in their OUTSIDE businesses.
Mike Brown (and the Brown family) represents the aberration. His business IS the Bengals. Nothing else. Thus, he RUNS it like a business rather than playing with it like a toy. While Mike Brown is a very good businessman (look at the amount of money the Bengals make in a small market like Cincinnati), he is a crappy NFL owner, because he doesn’t play with his team like the toy that it should be (and is to every other owner).
This makes Mike Brown - in the opinion of every football fan that lives in Cincinnati - a ginormous turd.

This hack has a serious problem. He makes Keith Overbite look like a reasonable man. This lowlife is just catering to his wine and cheeze eating friends. How can he say a owner like Wayne Weaver who does all types of charity work, Who puts a good team on the field every year is the worst owner in the NFL ? Some one grab this lowlife by the shoulders and pull his head out of his ass.

As a Bengals fan, I am offened Mike Brown isn’t No. 32. If you followed the Bengals for as long as I have, it would be crystal clear that Mike Brown is not only the worst owner in the NFL, but perhaps in all of professional sports.
