Question. Which NFL team has a 29-year-old running back who thinks he’s worth $10 million per year? (Sorry. Watching The Office reruns tonight.)
Answer. The Eagles.
Per a league source, Brian Westbrook is looking for a new deal that pays him $30 million over the first three years.
We’re told that Westbrook picked his new agent, Todd France, based on the fact that France was the only one who would guarantee that he could get Westbrook a certain level of compensation.
Per a league source, multiple other agents withdrew from the running once it became clear that Westbrook was treating the process like a hand of high-stakes Texas Hold ‘Em.
It’s unknown whether France committed to getting $30 million over three. All we know is that France’s bid was the highest.

yuck, westbrook is one of the cornerstones of my dynasty team. I hope he really isn’t drinking the kool-aid and thinking HE’s the one that will break the eagles M.O. of spending thrifty with their players.

That’s what she said.

I’m a huge Brian Westbrook fan, but this is absolutely ridiculous. It doesn’t matter whether he is trying to break the Eagles M.O., there isn’t a team out there that is going to give a 29yo RB $10 million a year. Has there ever been a RB at this age that would get paid close to this? My only hope is that he is betting on them giving him around 7-8 mil and that is what he will accept. He is trying really hard for this, I’m sure this is going to be his last big pay day. I don’t want to call him greedy, but damn, I could get there!

What an idiot.
I used to be an investment banker and unsophisticated business owners also sometimes pick their banker/agent based on how much they tell them they will get for the business.
People don’t realize they will get either good service or bad service, but that the market will determine their value.
and 10mm per year is not the market for Westbrook, so I wonder what he will do when he doesn’t get it. actually I know, he will resent France, but France will get paid.

After unproven McFadden is paid $60m over 6 years… why is it such a reach Westbrook is paid $30 over 3?

L.T. the 2nd might be worthy of money like that, but not Westbrook IMO. Oh well, as a Skins fan I hope he holds out. Just another MDD (Million Dollar Diva).

Crud. Westbrook was supposed to be different. I guess this means that just because a player is quiet doesn’t mean he isn’t loaded down with stupid primadonna potential.
The stats for RBs after they turn 30 are pretty pathetic. And Westbrook hasn’t exactly proven that he’s durable over the course of his career.
Plus, he’s under contract.
Brian, you’d better be on the field come opening day.

The Eagles offered him $15mil. more (guranteed) for the same amt. of years (which they never do) and he fired his agent who thought that was a fair deal. He’s dillusional if he thinks he’s getting 30 mil. He doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

BuffNaked has a good point, the Eagles franchise is worth 1.2 billion and is one of the five fastest growing professional sports franchises in the world. A-Rod and Johan Santana get 200mil+ in baseball, but Westbrook wanting 30mil guaranteed is outrageous?
At the same time, like jrhsd said - the market determines his value, and it just isn’t there. But at the same time I applaud him for trying - I’d much rather be Westbrook at the end of my career knowing I tried than Brady Quinn knowing I let myself get screwed like a cheap hooker.

“After unproven McFadden is paid $60m over 6 years… why is it such a reach Westbrook is paid $30 over 3?” Everyone knows that the raiders get ravaged over and over for all of their contracts. Making Walker the highest paid reciever in the NFL is a joke but it happened. Making Tommy Kelly the highest paid D-lineman in the league, (Who is Tommy Kelly you ask?) Another raider bum who got rewarded for 5 seasons of play and 19wins over those 5 years. This is just Al Davis trying to get back in his glory days. NFL payscale shouldnt be regulated by a dying old man trying to achieve glory one last time. The Eagles owners arn’t Handi-cap like Al. They will work out a resonable deal or Westbrook will be the next Shaun Alexander floating around the league looking for a team to pay him big money. (I know Westbrook is far better than Alexander but just a thought)

If TO couldn’t do it, there is no way they pay Westbrook. He should try to get his 0-line 30 million so his little ass doesnt get crushed.

Hey, Buff Naked - with all the explaining by Florio of how contracts and guaranteed money works , how can you say McFadden is getting $60 mill guaranteed?
“McFadden, who finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting in each of the last two seasons, will be guaranteed $26 million as the fourth pick in the draft, said his agent, Ian Greengross.”
A 29 year old back isn’t worth $10 mill for 3 years. Period. And I’m a HUGE Eagles and Westy fan.
Get yer facts straight before ya hit submit, dude……….

he needs to be here on thursday. IM off work both days and this greedy lil guy better be there. Look at todays trends in the NFL….many teams are starting to tell players take it or leave it. He is the second best back in football behind L.T., but theres no way to justify that payment as a smart investent. You see how he wants the 30 mil over the first three years, why not take it in the middle or the backside of the deal. They are offering him double his current deal, another 15 mil up front, and hes thumbing his nose at us. T.O. did this and look what we did with his punk ass, and HE GT US TO THE SUPERBOWL, westbrook hasn’t gotten us there yet. Either way you look at it he’ll never be happy. You cant say put up this year and we’ll pay you, cause he’ll be 30, so he needs it this year. But common’ your looking like an azz man. He better show on thurs or he’ll be crucified by the fans and media. This is the type of thing that reck’s the whole year, and if he does this they’ll never forgive him.

Westbrook is my favorite player in the NFL, he’s been a player’s player, he’s carried the Eagles on his shoulders more often then not and now he wants to get paid for it, I don’t blame him. Yes he has played above and beyond his contract but he did sign a contract. He probably should have had a better agent who got him more performance based concessions. I’m not a big fan of every player in the NFL wanting to redo their contract but that being said, he is the main reason I buy a ticket and put up with all the BS of actually going to a game instead of sitting on my fat ass watching my big screen in the comfort of my own home and for that, I think, he’s worth 10 Mil.
