Veteran safety Greg Wesley’s first career foray into free agency didn’t last long.
A league source tells us that Wesley has signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Raider, only days after he was cut by the Chiefs.
Though Wesley likely won’t beat out Michael Huff or Gibril Wilson for a starting job, Wesley could be the first option off the bench.
We don’t know the financial terms yet. If he was paid like some of the other players whom the Raiders have signed since the 2007 season ended, we predict that Wesley received something in the neighborhood of $14 million.

Nice, haha.
Oh and 5:55 a.m? You’re either up too early or up really late.

Outside of the $ jokes, the reality of the matter, he is being brought in to provide more competition @ the safety position. Obviously Michael Huff and Gibril Wilson will start, but the Raiders also have special teams ace Jarrod Cooper and rookie Tyvon Branch. I have a hard time believing either of those two won’t be on the 53-man.

We’ll take him. Wesley will add veteran depth, to an already very talented secondary. Good move by, Big Al.

That’s all well and good, but unless he can play nosetackle I’m not terribly excited. GO GET GRADY JACKSON!!! I am so afraid that we are gonna have a team that can fun the ball, and defend the pass, but get gashed by the run. Warren Sapp leaving should help the run support, but we need a wide-bady in there to free up our fast, but smallish, LB’s. Id even settle for Sam Adams. Every second we wait in another pound fatter these guys are getting…so get a move on!!

I have to laugh when people complain about positions being upgraded or not. Fact is… Defensive line is being upgraded by shoring up the secondary. Having shut down defensive backs helps the D line. Just as a good d line helps a mediocre secondary. It goes both ways. When you can’t throw you are forced to run. And if you are forced to run you can stack the box with linebackers and safties.
