Adam Caplan of Scout.com is reporting that the Houston Texans have waived offensive lineman Charles Spencer.
A 6-foot-4, 337-pounder from Pittsburgh, Spencer was the Texans’ 2006 third-round draft pick. He earned a job in the preseason as the starting left tackle, but he suffered a severe leg injury during the second game of the 2006 season and hasn’t played since.
It is not clear whether Spencer will find a spot on another team. He clearly has the talent to play in the NFL, and he’s versatile enough to play either guard or tackle.
But that September 2006 injury may have been career ending. Team trainer Kevin Bastin once described it as if “you would drive a spike through the top of your leg bone and you split the cartilage.”

Wow. It’s gotta be the injury, because he looked like the real deal. Too bad. I guess that’s the breaks sometimes.

Geez, Florio - no update on his recovery in that piece? It seems the most pertinent information, does it not? Are we to assume that because a trainer described it as “really gnarly” that his career is, in fact, over?
Help me out here… or am I surrounded by frickin’ idiots?
