With two down and (groan) thirty to go, it’s time to skim the third-worst franchise from the bottom of the NFL’s dogpile.
We’re probably going to make more than a few folks mad with this one, but we can’t help it. At No. 30 are the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs were horrible in 2007, and there’s no reason to believe they’ll be much/any better in 2008. The offseason brought in no veterans of any significant ability, and dominant All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen was traded for draft picks.
Sure, there’s reason to think that the Chiefs might be a lot better within the next few years. With Glenn Dorsey and Branden Albert and ten other draft picks, the Chiefs’ 12-pack of rookies possibly could end up being regarded in hindsight as one of the stronger draft classes in NFL history.
But that won’t mean much in 2008. And it could mean the end of the road for G.M. Carl Peterson and coach Herm Edwards.

I believe most people here in Kansas City can’t wait till Peterson is shown the door. He has been given a real long leash since he has been here thanks to the Hunt family, any other ownership would have kicked him out to the curb. This guy has been here since 1989 and has not accomplished anything.

Yeah, the Chiefs W-L record this season may well stink, but they’re effectively starting over from scratch and not trying to conceal this in any way. Personally, I’ll cut them some slack and cheer them for the good parts of their performance (and there will be some). And I’m saying that as a Pats fan.
Anyway, it would be pretty harsh to think that Peterson and Edwards would be fired for not producing a play-off contender in the first year of a wholesale rebuilding program. OTOH, it’s not like that hasn’t happened before.
And then there’s Matt Millen.

The Cowboys have had more playoff victories in the time that Peterson has had the reigns. And Herm may be a great guy, but he’s a glorified coordinator and doesn’t belong as a H.C.

I think when all is said and done, the chiefs will have the #1 pick in the draft. I love Glenn Dorsey, but when you rely on rookies for 50% of your starters, good luck. Where will the veteran leadership come from on this team? Tony Gonzalaz is good, as is Bowe, but who is gonna throw them the ball?
The Chiefs haven’t been the same since their all-pro O-line was split up, and Larry Johnson hasn’t been effective without them, and is breaking down from overuse.
With how few playmakers this team has I can’t see where the points are gonna come from…

I think the Chiefs are better than this.
Oakland x2
Broncos x 2
Dolphins
Falcons
Bungles
Bills
are all on the schedule. I’m not a Chiefs fan but I respect them more than PFT.

Liked the teams play against the Bears so much will go way out on a limb: 10-6 in 2008. The Chiefs have a relatively easy schedule, plus, no matter how good or bad the Chiefs and Chargers are, they always split their two game series. That’s one more win for the Chiefs. Derik Anderson came out of nowhere and almost killed the Chiefs playoff chances in 2006. Then he became a star qb in 2007 for the 10-6 Browns. I’m predicting a similar advance for Brodie Croyle and the 2008 Chiefs.
