Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has penned a column supporting the Packers’ position regarding the Brett Favre fiasco. In it, he drops all sorts of news nuggets, several of which are arguably worthy of stand-alone articles.
(The story is available right here, if you’re one of the suckers fine citizens who choose to pay for their Internet content.)
At one point, McGinn says that the Packers made a trade proposal to the Ravens, which was rejected. As we hear it, however, the Packers called the Ravens only to gauge their interest, and were told that the Ravens weren’t interested.
The asking price reportedly is a third-round pick and more, possibly a player. But with both Jason Taylor and Jeremy Shockey being traded in the past two days via packages headlined by a second-rounder, the Packers might now want at least that much for Favre.
McGinn identifies the other potentially interested teams as the Chiefs, Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Panthers, Buccaneers, Falcons, Redskins, Vikings, Bears, and Lions.
And McGinn points out that the Packers won’t give Favre permission to shop himself “[a]s long as [agent Bus] Cook is calling the shots.” This means, possibly, that if Favre were to dump Cook and hire a new agent, the team might be willing to let Favre try to find a new suitor.

the last comment about Bus Cook is very interesting–makes one think
that they have knowledge that cook was doing something he should not have been doing to start this whole mess..calling the panthers gm, or bucs gm, etc.

Why would the Ravens or any team who wants Brett want to give up draft picks and take on his 39 million dollar 3 year contract?
Bus Cook has the Pack over a barrel and they know it.
This is what is going to happen.
Brett is going to officailly unretire on the first day of the regualr season when he is no longer subject to any fines for not practicing, and his salary becomes fully garuanteed within 24 hours. The Pack may then again try to trade him for a 4th rounder or something to a team that has not liked what they saw from the Qbs in camp, but most likley they just wait for the release.
By that point, Rodgers will have played all 4 preseaon games and locked up the starting job, or the fans will be standing at TTs front door with torcjhes and pitchforks demanding his retirement and replacement with Brett Favre the first QB/ GM in sports history. He wins the Lombardi Trophy and thye just rename it the Brett.
Or he goes to Vikings, Colts or Pats, where ever he wants and makes a palyoff run with them.

Wow. The Ravens weren’t interested for only a 3rd rounder. I really thought they’d be a perfect fit for Favre. We know Boller doesn’t have it, and they can’t expect Flacco to step right in. Maybe Troy Smith was a steal in the 6th round after all.

As a Chiefs fan living in Kansas City, why would the Chiefs be interested? there o line is bad and besides Gonzalez and Bowe they have nothing that warrants why they would need a QB that is on his final stages of his career.

Well, I am sure that they think Bus Cook is lying whore who is destroying Favre’s reputation and who cannot be trusted with the whole Vikings thing.
Bus also had them thinking that they would get Moss and that he was using Favre to try to get them to give Moss more - and that in the end they were used as a decoy for the Patriots to raise the offer for Moss.
Favre considers Bus Cook one of his best friends. He has seen Bus go from having him as his only client to having several high profile ones and working great deals for Moss and McNair.
No pun intended, but I cannot ever see Favre throwing his lifelong friend and agent, Bus under the bus.

I still believe favre will be traded before training camp because if he shows up there, it’s going to get down right ugly.
McCarthy will probably put him on the practice squad.

BWAAAAAHHHAAAAAHAHAAAA…whew.
Good laugh though, I really needed that. I was going to post earlier that it would be great if he goes to one of the AFC East teams as the Pats DB’s could use some work on their interception abilities, but the Jets fans thinks he’ll have them winning the SB. Priceless.

The Jets aren’t winning the SB even if they dug up Johnny Unitas and cloned him with parts of Joe Montana, Roger Staubach, Dan Marino, Terry Bradshaw, Tom Brady, Troy Aikman, and Peyton Manning. They’d have better luck bringing back Namath for one more run.
My bet is that Dan Snyder will once again mortgage his team’s future in order to watch Favre throw 50 INTs. The Foreskins are where washed up players go to collect one last big paycheck without doing anything to earn it. Snyder just can’t help himself. He’ll probably offer his next 4 #1 picks. Good luck, Jason. Say ‘hi’ to Deion if he shows up.

I don’t see why Favre doesn’t ask for reinstatement from the league and force the Packers to act quickly for the obvious reasons of causing a bigger distraction to the team and having his salary count against the cap. The Packers may not want to Favre to play for certain teams but they may not have a choice. Go ahead and have him be the backup and watch the media circus every week that would cause, hindering any chance of a successful season. Go ahead and start Favre and basically ruin any future with Rodgers as he won’t trust the organization and will leave when his time comes.
You could argue the market was set by Taylor, but every team in the NFL arguably wanted Taylor. Depth at DE is huge for any team and there is a lot of demand for a game changing DE. The same can’t be said for Favre as there are probably only 3-5 teams that would actually make a run at him. Many teams are already set at QB, either with veterans or they are grooming their guy. And many of the teams listed in the above article are bad teams and the guys who run those teams know that adding Favre won’t make that much of a difference for them so why waste picks.
With the news about Favre quieting, this feels like the calm before the storm.

I am one of the “suckers” who subscribes to the Packers Insider on the Milwaukee Journal site. It is well worth it, Bob McGinn is an amazing writer. His insight into the team is worth $45 bucks a year to me. I also enjoy participating in the post game and mid-week chats. The man has connections around the NFL. He interviews scouts and personnel guys from around the league. Anyway, about this whole Favre drama…I think he will end up retiring. No one is going to give the Packers what they want. The article talked about Favre using a cellphone the Packers gave him to use. He talked to Brad Childress and Darrel Bevell numerous times, for extended periods. I’ve left comments on this site and emailed Mr. Florio about another option the Packers should consider. If Favre shows up, put him on IR. Only someone with a severe brain injury would use a team issued cellphone to call another teams head coach/offensive coordinator. That would end all the pressure on Rodgers. The article is too long to post here, otherwise I’d do it.

Well maverick, your post confirms you are a sucker. Mcginn is an idiot also. If I was Favre I would hold the clipboard for 3 yrs with a bigass smile on my face and collect the 39 million. I would, of course, wait until week 6 though. The “packers suck, unkay?”

i dont see miami, carolina, atlanta, detroit. at least 2 suck (mia, atl and maybe another) and at least 2 have “their guy” (det, car).
kitna can throw a game-ending pick just as well as favre. he has more chances too cause he ends up getting knocked horizontal more often.
favre isnt an improvement over a healthy delhomme.
miami and atlanta might win 10 games between them. if they both had favre.
