Last month, Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey and receiver Plaxico Burress acted up at a mandatory minicamp. Both could be paying up for their behavior.
According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, the team fined Shockey $25,000 and Burress $42,000 for conduct detrimental to the team.
Shockey stayed inside Giants Stadium while the team practiced, and he got into a shouting match with G.M. Jerry Reese. Burress missed five meetings and refused to practice due to the lack of a new contract.
The fines reportedly are being appealed by the NFLPA.
The Giants somehow kept the fines under wraps. Coincidentally, news of the fines broke only after the Giants managed to unload Shockey to the Saints. It’s possible that, if the Saints had known about the hostile posture between Shockey and the team, the Saints would not have been inclined to give up a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick to get him, under the assumption that a divorce was inevitable.
As to Burress, it’s unknown whether the fine will get Burress in line. If he refuses to practice at training camp, he could end up being suspended. Burress has recently said that he expects to get a new deal before camp opens. He is signed through 2010.

Is Burress The Next New York Giant to get the boot. I think if he keeps up the b.s. and Steve Smith (not that steve smith) shows that he has what it takes to be the #1 guy Burress will be shown the door also.

Plax is not going anywhere. He might even get the team to rework his contract even though he has 3 years left on the original deal.
While I’m excited about Steve Smith, he’s the heir apparent to Amani Toomer, who will likely retire in a year or two. Plaxico is a game-breaker, by far the Giants best (and most feared) weapon. We can’t afford to get rid of him.
Finally, the Saints probably would have pulled the trigger on the Shockey deal even if they knew about his latest tantrum. Do you think Sean Payton (or anyone that followed the NFL) is unaware of Shockey’s attitude at this point? They know actually what they’re getting. They think he’ll be able with his new coach and the city of New Orleans.

Maybe we can switch blame from the players to the team. Its ok for the press to bad mouth the NJ Giants every now and then.

BS? Ocho Stinko was spewing BS. Plax has expressed that he more cash, and has been pretty civil about it considering (his agent).

And thus the seeds were sewn for the decent from the top of the division to the bottom.

Plax isn’t going anywhere. His trade price would be too high and he would be signed within hours of a release most likely by a division foe (each one could use him).

He’s not even rated as a top ten receiver in the league. Big head, no brains.
Would he be acting out like this if the Giants didn’t win the SuperBowl?

The reason Burress is not a top ten receiver is because Amani Toomer gets a lot throws too, as well as Steve Smith and the TEs. But Burress is 4th in TD receptions, despite playing against the double team and ankle and knee injury. Imagine the year he would have had if he weren’t injured!
