It’s been days since John Tomase of the Boston Herald has written an article on the Patriots, and weeks since he’s posted a blurb on the newspaper’s online NFL blog.
Now, a reader has pointed out to us that a job covering the Patriots has been advertised at JournalismJobs.com.
Tomase has been villified in the wake of his February 2008 report that the Patriots videotaped the Rams’ walk-through practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI. The Herald has since retracted the story, and Tomase apologized for the error.
Tomase has been covering the Red Sox of late.

He actually had the story right, Matt Walsh got a pretty good price to make the whole story appear like it wasn’t true.
The true extent of the Patriots cheating is known but the selling of the tape gives Bob “I have another refill” Kraft and his slimy headcoach, Bill “Could I be a bigger sore loser” Bellicheat an out in the story.

You can’t cover a team where you have no credibility. He rushed to print a story & could not verify the story. The National Enquirer has already offered him a job.At least we will not have to read stories he reprints a day after another paper prints it. The most hated reporter in the area.

If true that’s a step in the right direction.
They should also make his editors cover the Jets as punishment for running a false story.

Good, that’s one.
the first casualty of Camera/Spy-gate.
Now who’s next, Ratgini? Then perhaps that tool in Hawaii, all the way up to the master himself, Belicheat? Maybe even the Commish? Which Spygate player loses his job next?

Tomase is a great man and will land on his feet. He unwittingly brought the public hammer down on Goodell, the Cheatriots, and their phony “dynasty”. For that we’ll always grateful. He will leave Boston to a chorus of boos and be greeted by the rest of the country with a standing ovation and cheers. LOL.

The Herald lost Chad Bradford to WEEI and weei.com last week, and I think Mike Felger is also done there. Bradford’s leaving was the perfect excuse to move Tomase over to the Sox beat, and out of his own personal hell that is Foxboro.

Let’s face it. Tomase broke a very important rule of journalism. He ran with a rumor that he portrayed as facts because the people heard the rumor from were fairly connected and Walsh claimed he had something new although Tomase had no clue what it was. Tomase had no more information than most journalists in the Boston area. Tom Curran of NBC Sports wrote about the videotaping rumor and portrayed it as a rumor that had no credibility several months before Tomase’s story.
If Tomase lost his job, it was because he deserved to lose it. I have never been all that hard on the guy, but by his own admission he assumed Matt Walsh had the goods, but didn’t know and then portrayed it as facts. Many other journalists have been fired for similiar reasons or even less.
Tomase has destroyed his career because of over agressive reporting that violated the rules of journalism. No major news organization will ever hire him. No NFL team is going to give him access now. It is too bad because one momumentally bad decision ruined a fairly bright career.

Tomass is a jerk, and has no ethical integrity. He didn’t unwittingly do anything. He reported something which had no basis in truth, and failed to try and validate his story, because to do that he would have missed his vendetta deadline. That deadline had to happen to try and bring as much harm as possible to the Pats. Truth be damned. He doesn’t want to report, he wants to try and influence the sport. He is perfectly willing to harm the sport he professes to love, just so he can have “influence.”
Well, his days are numbered. The fans will see to it he never reports in this town again. We will hold him, AND his paper responsible. The paper posted an apology, and within days was again posting unverified stories bashing the Pats. Then they try and put this guy back reporting on the Pats. That is a very hollow apology. He should have been fired, and the paper should have learned to verify rumors before posting them as fact.

Oh poor John? Tomase brought this on himself! Didn’t want to get scooped by the NY times(owns the Boston Herald) so, he went with a critically flawed story! He had no second source and as far as I can tell never spoke to Walsh!
He can apologize a 1000 times, the damage has been done. I don’t think any of the players would trust this guy with anything! What alot of people fail to recognize or intentionally ignore, John was wrong! Not only wrong, but went with the story the night before the SB 42! This is my biggest issue with Tomase, waiting until the night before the SB! Why not wait 1 day? Let the players play the game clean. Now, he must pay the price for his gamble! He rolled the dice, lost and now he’d be lucky to get a job in covering football… Would you hire this fundamentally flawed writer with a false story?

If I ever become so obssessed with hate that I start reading this site and posting on stories about teams I don’t like and continually use the same old tired and false accusations, please just shoot me and get it over with. Clearly my life will be the epitome of pathetic. I’ll probably even give Tomasse a call and share grooming tips like, how to look like a greasy-haired unshaven slob with no credibility-a look he has mastered.

How about the head coaching position for the NE cheats*** being filled?
Oh wait, it wasn’t the Cheatriots fault they cheated for 8 years, it was all the other teams the patriots beat during those years, their fans and the medias fault.

I’d be quite suprised if Tomase was still covering the Pats this year. He single-handedly gave new life to a story that was dead (I don’t remember any Patriot being asked a “spygate” related question on Super Bowl media day), and it turns out that everything people speculated about between the day the story ran and the day the Herald retracted it (over 3 months) was false. I don’t see what incentive the Pats ownership/coaches/players have to give this guy the time of day at this point.
