Ravens franchise player Terrell Suggs has yet to sign his one-year franchise tender. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Suggs won’t sign it until after the Ravens conclude the preseason on August 28.
Suggs loses no money, other than the training camp per diem. He’ll still make $8.5 million for the 2008 season if he signs the tender in time for the start of the regular season. And since the deadline for signing franchise players to long-term deals expired last month, the only inducement the Ravens could offer would be a guarantee that they won’t use the tag on him again in 2009 if he meets certain performance triggers.
The risk he’s taking by not signing is that the Ravens could revoke the franchise tag, and owe him nothing. The chances of that happening in this case are slim.
While we’re on the topic, here’s a PFTV segment from last week regarding the status of the three franchise players who have not yet signed their tenders.

Nice deal if you can get it? Coach Harbaugh can’t be pleased.
