Fortunately for the Redskins, they won’t have to swing a trade for a high-end veteran NFL cornerback in the wake of their acquisition of defensive end Jason Taylor.

Cornerback Fred Smoot, the third player injured in the first day of Redskins practice on Monday, was the only one not lost for the year.  Instead, he’ll miss less than a week with a sprained ankle.

I love sprained ankles now,” coach Jim Zorn said at the end of his first day of official practice as an NFL head coach.

Defensive end Phillip Daniels tore an ACL during the morning practice, and defensive end Alex Buzbee popped an Achilles tendon in the afternoon session.  Both are done for the year.
