The top topic of conversation surrounding the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants is whether tight end Jeremy Shockey will be part of the team this season. General Manager Jerry Reese doesn’t want to talk about it.
Reese wouldn’t even say whether he thinks Shockey will be in attendance when the team opens training camp in Albany on Thursday.
“I expect we’ll have 53 players when we play the Redskins [in the regular season opener] who want to be here, and are happy to be here, ready to play as a team, ready to defend the title. That’s what I expect,” Reese said, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. “If that includes Jeremy, that would be great.”
Reese also wouldn’t say whether he and Shockey got into a shouting match this off-season, saying only, “A lot of it wasn’t reported correctly.”
Shockey has reportedly been unhappy with his role in the Giants’ offense, and there were widespread reports before the draft that he was close to being traded. Shockey skipped all voluntary workouts this off-season but did attend the team’s mandatory minicamp.

Shockey is just upset that they won the big one without him. They were better without.

If Shockey is truely unhappy, then why not trade him? they have a good TE that they used last year that is just as good, if not better than Shockey. Trade him to a team, and get some picks

Cut him loose already. He’s a whiner and the team’s better off without him. When he wants to play well, he’s a pretty good TE. Unfortunately for the Giants, he’s got a Randy Moss-like attitude about the game. That kid Boss may not be the answer, but at least he’s not a distraction to the team. I’ve always felt Shockey was a bit overrated myself.

I’m sure whatever the holier-than-thou Giants do will be applauded by the press.

We are having problems with one of my favorite players - Shockey and the Bill’s are having problems Jason Peters, a young pro bowl OLT. Many believe that a change of scenery would benefit both. How about Shockey and a 3rd round pick for Peters, or Shockey, Moss, and a 5th round pick for Peters. Buffalo’s young QB’s would benefit having Shockey and the G-men’s O line would go from being thin to deep. Diehl would return to his more natural position of RG, Seubert, would be a quality backup and TE in short yardage. The Giants would have one of the top O-lines in football and Eli might have an extra fraction of a second in the pocket to make a play or more importantly stay healthy.
Thank you for your time.

All the guy does is complain anyway. He is not a team player. I don’t think its a coincidence Eli got much better once him and Tiki weren’t in the huddle. Shockey is good, but by no means great. Its not worth the drama he brings with his bad attitude and whining to the media

@Coutre
Oooo, you do have a point there. NYG do seem to be media darlings. However, when 1 team in New York wins a Super Bowl and the other is constantly awful, you’d have to expect this.

Jerry Reese learned a valuable lesson about being too greedy–he let a 2nd round pick slip through his fingers before the 2008 draft–a high draft pick who could have been in camp this week completing for a starting position.
Now, Reese surely knows that trading Shockey is the only option but Reese will have to bite the bullet and take less for it to happen.
Randy Moss was traded for a 4th rounder. Reese should count his lucky stars to get the same for Shockey at this point.

It’s being reported (Jay Glazer) that the Giants have traded Shockey to the Saints for a #2 and a #5 in 2009.
